somewhat of a noob here ... 71 yr old brain still stuck in 98se ... leap into XP was big enough ... just now mouting learning curve to build 7sp1x64... oh yikes ... the mountains get bigger FWIW, WHD seems to load just fine in my XPx86sp3+ (build iso includes POS updates thanks to OnePiece!) regarding the datafile for WHD_win7x64 ... is it possible to expand the wh file to show tooltips ... 7zip doesn't seem to recognize the compression I'd like to put the learning curve into a calc spreadsheet ... I can review tooltips without mouseover and add hyperlinks to KBs that I want to dig into Also, Windows7 AIK seems to install into XP (with .NET 4 and XML6) and the DISM seems to work as well it would be sweet if old noob here would build my win7 iso from XP! VERY awesome program big thanks to aboddi and others ... building personal KB list by frogwalk through the MS database post SP1 is a long slog Thanks!
Welcome wh is encrypted file after loading a list, you may click on the blue save button on the right, which will decrypt/save the list as xml file
Hi Abbodi! Thanks for the list. For Windows 7, both x86 and x64, the April list has 8 links that MS has apparently pulled. All but one is available from TheHotfixShare. They don't don't show up in update catalog, or google. The 8 "pulled" links are Code: line, KB-zip.exe, KB file expanded 109, 431600, 2443643 152, 437211, 2600100 162, 441559, 2624868 *not on hotfix share 211, 453724, 2733955 254, 462022, 2829262 321, 479233, 3000056 336, 482233, 3031987 342, 483864, 3048801 If you decide to upload the missing one to HFS, I noted that all of the links that you posted to abboudi square 7, except for 1 (2780124), are also backed up on hotfix share. I don't know if HFS can serve a direct-link DL, but HFS might work as a safety backup. I am currently running XP x86, on which I will try to build my Win7 ISO. Probably because I didn't run as administrator, but when WHD expanded the zip.exe's some of the files got dropped. A popup asked ... run as current user, administrator or what, and I may have just clicked through. In any case there are two zip.exe's that expand into a KB.msu, + a KB.cab, + a KB.txt, + package.log. 397214_ENU_x64_zip.exe --> Windows6.1-KB974150-x64.msu + Windows6.1-KB974150-x64.cab + etc. 400509_ENU_x64_zip.exe--> Windows6.1-KB974674-x64.msu + Windows6.1-KB974674-x64.cab+ etc. When I ran WHD, it gave me the .msu only, but not the .cab. Do need the two .cabs to integrate? also the associated KB.txt files and packakge.log files, do I need them as well? --- a DISM question --- AIK7 installs just fine on XP. Unfortunately, to build an image, it needs more space than I have remaining on my c-drive. (Arghh ... back when I thought a 20G c-drive was criminally insane! haha on me!) Any chance you might know if DISM from AIK7 transplanted to a largerd:-drive, in XP machine, will integrate, or do I need to setup a temporary 7 machine to build a 7 iso? Probably figure 100G for the future 7 partition? I am studying the new 7 components, and the updates before I try to build a simple DISM script. I saw yours. WOW! It's very elegant. I like the idea of building my own simple DISM script, even if crude. I'd really appreciate some guidance setup to build a standard client-7 desktop with IE11, RDP, Mgmt Framework, Work Folders, Virtual PC, XP mode, Java RTE, then platform update, rollup, updates, etc.-- would this be the right thread for that topic, or should I open a new thread under Win7? Your txt files in the list are very helpful. Big Thanks![/code]
Hi @molecule just checked, all links are working the new hotfix https links may require to increase URLtimeout https://forums.mydigitallife.net/posts/1417163 also, being on Win XP, HTTPS protocols might not get full support yes, WHD only serve the needed msu file within hotfix those cab/txt files are leftovers and sloppy work from MS sorry, i never used DISM on XP, but using Win 7 host os is highly recommended i'm not sure what kind of guidance you seek, but it's better to have own thread at Windows 7 forum i'll try my best to provide info
I'm trying to apply same updates that were installed on Laptop-1 to Laptop-2. I managed to apply many updates by using WHDownloader and abbodi1406's Windows 7 & Office 2010 updates installer scripts BUT I'm still running short of 53 updates (listed below). Is there anyway to download these as batch using any tool? please advise what is the easiest way to download the below updates and apply? Target machine is Win7 Prof with office 2010. List:- KB2921916 KB2990941 KB2997842 KB3019978 KB3067904 KB3080079 KB3081320 KB3087873 KB3092627 KB3097966 KB3101746 KB3118401 KB3121255 KB3121461 KB3133977 KB3138901 KB3139923 KB3142042 KB3145739 KB3146706 KB3146963 KB3149090 KB3153731 KB3181988 KB4012204 KB4012212 KB4014504 KB4014661 KB4015546 KB4019263 KB4021558 KB4022722 KB4025252 KB4025337 KB4034679 KB4034733 KB4036586 KB4038779 KB4040685 KB4041678 KB4047206 KB4048960 KB4052978 KB4054521 KB4056897 KB4074587 KB4088878 KB4089187 KB4092946 KB4093108 KB4099467 KB4099950 KB4100480 Thanks!
prvnrk: Are those ones shown as needed when checking Windows Update? If so, be aware that many of those are superseded and not actually necessary. What abbodi1406 includes in the WHDownloader lists cover all the components that would be updated by the ones shown in Windows Update but are newer component versions, since many hotfixes are included here. Also, installing the Convenience Rollup (KB3125574) makes the installation of many individual updates unnecessary. All the ones included in the category "Extra\WithoutKB3125574" are not needed if you've installed KB3125574. Some of the updates you listed are in that category so check if you've installed KB3125574. The updates included in the Simplix pack are only the ones shown as needed in Windows Update. And, of course, the ones listed in Windows Update MiniTool are also the same as WU. You could use either of those tools if you just want to fulfill what WU wants. But abbodi1406's lists here are more comprehensive and don't contain superseded updates.
I came from here. I acquired WHDownloader, read the ReadMe, which explained absolutely nothing to me. Tried "playing" with the software itself, which again, didn't bring me any closer to any solution at all. I admit, I haven't read all the 129 pages in this thread (I should have read it all first?), looking into a few posts, it seems like an advanced one, without any explanation to newbies. So how shall I proceed with what I try to accomplish in the first pace? I appreciate if you answer me over there, not to overcomplicate things.
IAmAPC: WHDownloader is a tool that allows you download updates for Windows and Office. After starting WHD, click the arrow in the upper-left corner that says "Download all Latest Update Lists". Then click the drop-down list next to it and select "Windows 10-x64" (or -x86; whichever you have). Then open the list and select the updates in the category "General/14393" and click the Download button in the lower-left corner. That will download the updates for you. After that, you are free to do what you want with the updates. You can either manually install them by double-clicking them or you could use an install script found in abbodi1406 signature above here to automate the installation of them. There really is not a big advantage to updating the Windows 10 .iso with updates since they change so regularly. It's probably best to just install the updates after installing Windows.
cnlic: I'm not sure what that screen says. If it's something for security, try right-clicking WHDownloader.exe and running it with administrator rights. (I don't remember if XP has that option though..) Also, be sure you downloaded WHDownloader from here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/whdownloader-download.66243/ or from MajorGeeks. WHD offers updates for Win7, Win8.1, Win10 & Office. For XP updates, take a look at ryanvm.net
cnlic: Okay, good- that means you got it from a safe source then. What exactly is the problem you're asking about? I can't read that screen you posted. Does that risk notification screen appear for each of the 14 lists? If that's what you're asking about, I don't know of way to bypass that on XP. Maybe somebody else here knows though.
cnlic: I tried several times just now to install XP in VMWare and kept getting errors about paging file quota, so wasn't able to to run XP to try WHD on it. As I mentioned, I don't know of a way around that, but hopefully somebody else here might know.
