I'm glad that you have at least tried KUC. It does offer to remove superseded updates and if I had 400 installed on my system, I would be happy to get rid of them. Yes, it removes them in batches of 75 because it's been found that systems slow to a crawl if much larger batches are done at once. It's the same reason abbodi1406's install scripts also default to 75 at a time. It takes a while to get systems completely updated with Win7 since there are so many updates. And many of those older Win7 updates have both GDR and LDR branches, which can add even more time to the process if you're installing a different branch than what you had installed previously. When you think about all the logic that is involved in what KUC is doing, it really is quite an amazing app. (And we should be thankful that @komm is still updating it after all these years.) But it does take some time to get things completely updated the first time. After that, maintaining a system with it is much faster/easier.
Are we talking about offline integration or online installing updates? ps, for 7 should Simplix updatepack also be considered
Ah, this might be one of my issues with 8.1, I'm unsure the source ISO I have, I downloaded it some time ago. It likely is an update 3 ISO though, so I'll try again with that folder in WHD.
I wish I could reboot after 75 and then continue on the other 435 or whatever, instead of having to run KUC all over again to create another Remove_OLD.cmd, that's what is tedious. I also don't understand why it's not installing all the missing ones afterward, why I have more to download with Microsoft Update after than before KUC. I'm probably missing something there too... still learning the ins and outs of the utility. ;-)
I haven't used KUC for offline integration yet, I was using abbodi1406's scripts, and then trying to install any remaining updates online with anything that could do a local install and not needing the internet (wsusoffline, KUC, etc.). I have a number of machines to deploy/maintain and I wanted an ISO as up to date as possible before going through the pain of sysprepping a custom image.
1. Verify that you use the correct list for matching iso (update 1 or update 3) 2. You need to set the QualityCompat registry to complete the supersedence chain for WU 3. Did you add a language pack after updates? or enabled some features?
I have 17763 ADK too and is is created thanks for log yes, because all telemetry components are now included in Monthly Rollup
When will WHDownloader pick up today's updates? How long typically? Just curious as I'm not seeing anything new yet...
It's tedious work in comparing the contents of the updates and it's all done by one person: abbodi1406 He typically updates the lists within a day or so, sometimes sooner depending on how many are released and how busy he is with other things.
Ah! Much respect then! I didn't know if it was like WSUSOffline where it checked a Microsoft database or catalog and pretty much picked them up as soon as they were live.
@Enthousiast I stand correct, WHD-W7UI and WHD-W8.1UI only support Windows 8.1 ADK thus, oscdimg.exe from Windows 10 ADK is not detected it created iso in my test because i already have oscdimg.exe in System32 directory maybe i should mention that all UI scripts can detect and use %windir%\system32\oscdimg.exe anyway, WHD-W8.1UI v4.8 is up
How come every now and then multiple updates fail to download? Even after I retry and it says failed again. Tried twice to download 8.1 x64 Upd 3 updates and 11 updates fail to download.
Probably has to do with the problems occurring lately on WU, the links/updates are direct msft downloads.
I just downloaded them all and see the issue also. It's the requested hotfixes that are having problems. Normal updates are ok. As Enthousiast said, the links are all official MS links, but those requested hotfixes are routed through a different domain (hotfixv4.trafficmanager.net vs. download.microsoft.com). hotfixv4.trafficmanager.net is the official MS domain for them and it's down at the moment apparently. The old domain of hotfixv4.microsoft.com for them is not working either. I think abbodi1406 posted previously that MS is slowly killing access to the requested hotfix system and this may be another sign that it's going away at some point. Maybe abbodi1406 knows more about this.
