After those updates the difference would be small i guess ... but might be enough . You could convert the WIM to ESD that will make it 1 GB smaller . My current one with additional 300 MB Setup folder is 4,41 GB whereas the ESD is 3,39 GB .
Looks good with that size . ================================================================== EDIT: Not that much difference as i added a lot of stuff to Windows\Setup\Scripts, i.e. program-installers, settings files and runtime installers with about 300 MB .
Final chapter. The answer was really my iso file. I've download the iso core pro windows 8.1. Open with hotfixdownloader, integrate french language pack, put the windows media center. Repack the iso file with the change burn on a dvd and VOILĂ€. Now i can work. One more time, thank you everybody. Appreciate. Lievre
I have done this and I keep getting an error that "Something has happened. Setup has failed to validate the product key." Any ideas? Thanks.
ei.cfg You need to either set it to a specific version, or remove it completely. Code: [EditionId] ProfessionalWMC [Channel] Retail [VL] 0
I was able to use the generic install key to install 8.1 Pro over 8.1 VL without having to do a fresh install. I now have 8.1 Pro but it is not activated. I tried to add WMC from System but it says I must activate this version of Windows first. Good thing is that it accepts my upgrade key as valid, just have to figure out how to activate this version first. Update: I have tried to activate with Microsoft Toolkit and it activates, but now when I try and add WMC through System it says "You can't add features to this edition of Windows." Kind of stumped.
WMC can be added only to 8.1 Pro activated by Retail or OEM channel. MTK uses Volume channel, and MS doesn't allow adding features to Volume-activated Pro. Catch-22
Just to close the loop I was able to eventually get this to work, was pretty convoluted though. I had 8.1 Pro activated via KMS and had my legit WMC upgrade key. As stated earlier, could not add WMC to Windows through System as was KMS activated. I created a Windows 8.1 WMC install via hotfixdownloader but did not input my key. I made sure to edit ei.cfg to reflect Windows 8.1 WMC and when I clicked setup on the ISO in Windows 8.1 KMS activated environment was given the option to install and keep my files. Unfortunately this did not keep all of my files and I have had to boot into a recovery environment to restore them from their deleted state, but I was able to install Windows 8.1 WMC on top of a previously KMS activated Windows 8.1. Upon first boot it said it wasn't activated though and wouldn't activate with my key so I did phone activation and was eventually given a confirmation code and now have Windows 8.1 WMC activated and am in the process of reinstalling my programs and restoring the above mentioned deleted files. This was a big hassle and I would not recommend going from KMS activated to WMC version of 8.1. As other members have advised would be better to backup files and settings and just do a clean install. Was able to get it working finally though.
