tried searching to no avail, lol, anyways I remember someone posting not long ago that there was a new group policy setting , only under education and enterprise I think, that disabled the windows update service without actually doing it yourself under services.msc

anyone can shed light on this new setting? thanks

    New setting?

It's been there from the beginning.

    Run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Configure Automatic Updates = Disabled

I have observed that the only sure-fire way to disable updates from downloading is by disabling the win Update Service.

This observation has also been used in winAero Tweaker.
