cCleaner works fairly well but the best reg cleaner is "you". Download "RegistryCrawler" and clean the files manually. You know what programs you put in so you will do the best job. Software thast does it for you can destroy important features like remove VID keys and the like, or product registration etc...be careful!

I've used jv16 on my XP SP3. It cleared a lot, really a lot of "invalid" keys - So, my computer was supposed to run faster, right?

The answer was NO! It took much more time, usually a few seconds, to open applications, compared to less than a second before the reg was CLEANED.

Now I just stay away with these CLEANERs.

I've tried out a few of them, and all of them give out some or even many "false positives". One needs a certain knowledge of the registry and it's containing keys, or at least research the results to see which are safe to delete and which aren't.

The ONLY regcleaner which, to my knowing, has never given out any false positives, is Ccleaner. I still feel this is the safest cleaner out there. Not the best, but every key I've ever seen it list will be safe to delete.
However, it does miss, or overlook, a certain ammount of deletable keys.
But anyone without any registry skillz can safely use it to clean their registry.

    Registry Clean Expert

The best in my opinion. I tried a few others. some of them can not fix problems and some of them even cause more problems. However, Registry Clean Expert is a safe tool based on my experience. It doesnot mess my system, and it did fix problems for a couple of times I used.

    Hi,

There are a number of spyware programs are found in market, but I found

Windows Registry Cleaner can safely clean, repair and optimize the Windows

registry problems, a common cause of Windows crashes, slow performance and

    error messages.

I don`t agree that registry cleaners not helping with performance.Sometimes corrupted registry is guilty when OS crashes.I use registry first aid.No one said nothing about it.When you use RFA on xp sp3, it speeds up system about 30%.Maybe more.New version works in windows 7.I tested it on several machines. And it`s not true that just uninstall of sw makes corrupted registry.Firewalls,AV,file extensions...makes mess too.I use agresive RFA, but you have option to choose what to delete. And to back up registry.Full, or in regedit format.I use it for a years.

The safest and most conservative is Advanced System Optimizer. If you need a little more cleaning go to CCleaner.

    Registry 1st Aid

Cleaning the registry is a double edged sword, some do not do enough while other do too much and mess things up. I have found a great programs that cleans very well. Registry 1st Aid is a great tool that makes a backup before it starts and backs up the mods it makes so you can easily restore if you find you have told it to remove too much. It rates all the problems it finds as green, yellow or red.
This company has done their homework and makes a product that I have used on over 800 repairs and have cleaned and repaired messed up registry settings.
