hey mate lobo11 It is: WFC >>> WF >>> WFP<>BFE It is not: WFC >>> WFP<>BFE Where: WFC=Windows Firewall Control WF=Windows Firewall WFP=Windows Filtering Platform BFE=Base Filtering Engine (A service that controls the operation of the Windows Filtering Platform) Therefore WFC does not replace WF at all. As already stated WFC is a front-end for WF. Nothing more nothing less.
Now, respect third party firewalls which utilize their own proprietary driver only, guess I need to make a research with every maker directly cause I don't find any consensus but controversy on that subject in some forums.
WFC let's you see all the incoming and outgoing connections. If you have the payed version it notifies when something rings out It has even an shell integration if you want to allow and block programs
If Windows Firewall does the job for you there's no reason to use anything else.. I stumbled upon Private Firewall a year or two ago, and it does the job for me.
Not 100% true WFC detects more then Windows firewall does it gives you more control on the ingoing outgoing traffic I also host an server so it comes in handy for me
I was made to believe that WFC is just an easy way to use Windows Firewall by using it's own GUI. If its adds more features, that's great..!
Yeah indeed here is an summary = [h=3]Program Features[/h] √ Intuitive user interface which is easy accessible through a system tray icon. √ Full support with standard user accounts. Elevated privileges are required only at installation. √ Disable the ability of other programs to add Windows Firewall rules. √ Integrated support of creating, modifying and deleting Window Firewall rules. √ Multiple and easier ways of creating new rules in Windows Firewall. √ Lock feature which can disable the access to the settings of the program and Windows Firewall. √ Shell integration into the right click context menu of the executable files. √ Automatically display invalid rules for programs that do not exist any more. √ Merge multiple similar rules or duplicate existing ones. √ View recently allowed and blocked connections and create new rules from the Security log. √ Import and export of partial sets of rules. √ Protection to unauthorized uninstallation. √ Possibility to restore previous settings at uninstallation. √ Global hot keys are supported and various shortcut keys are available. √ And many, many more. Just try it out.
From OP: WFC is out of discussion, don't you think so? OP needs advice about vendors that build firewalls with proprietary drivers, just like Comodo, ZoneAlarm, Private Firewall, etc.
Do you know any hardware firewall where you can set rules for windows applications, such as firefox.exe for example? I have yet to find one, usually it's only iptables...
This is for real? I install this program today, it was nice, but it is really, really a big nice addon for Windows Firewall itself. Is WF really can't change its own rules after instllation of this program? WFC even doesn't install kernel drivers.
