Hi guys just asking around What W7 Edition is good for one of my epic system it has 1.6ghz cpu, 256mb video card, 512mb RAM I'm planning to go for Windows 7 Starter... what do you think? How about Vista Starter
BUT i want a non edited os and i want to tweak it myself. so what edition is good for that old box? also is it possible to make it use less ram if i tweak it all the way? around 150mb like xp?
hm, one thing is to install win7 on 512mb just because "you can", other thing is if you actualy want usable system without boot starting for 5min and starting applicantions taking 1min... Some cell phones this days have problably 512mb of ram....
actually i tried installing a windows 7 ultimate on another 512 ram system and its usable (for internet use and streaming only). is windows 7 starter worth it for a fully functional system?
I mean there isn't any version of Win7, which works in a manageable way with only 512 MB RAM. That's just my opinion. Just try it.
week ago i install win7 professional 32bit on: athlonxp 1,5GHz; 768MB DDR RAM; 80GB HDD and Ati 9250, works good i think u can install home premium version sorry for my english
yes that's possible, i tried that some time ago but is it better to put in 7 starter? cause when i tried win7 ultimate on a low end, the browsers seems slow a bit
I used 7 rc on a old 512 mb ram on AMD machine. It worked fine except that the aero feature was automatically disabled.Boot time was less than a minute
I would recommend WinXP, but as mentioned in some posts Win7 works "fine" with 512MB of RAM so just risk and try.
What "services" are loaded when you install Starter vs Ultimate? Aero only? If you disable superfetch, then use the "Resource Monitor", there is the 'bar' ram you can see how much ram is left.
None. Use WinXP. Given the mentioned specifications, WinXP would outperform Win7 (That is, if you could run a stable Win7 on it). It's not a 'must' to use the latest OS in the market, you know.
none. No edition of Win7 will run good on 512mb of RAM, I don't even think it will install on a system with that little RAM. Lowest recommended minimum is 1gb with a half decent video card.
OH, really??? I am running Ultimate on a 2.5gig with 512meg. No problem real problem, the only problem is that it can't take memory hogin' program ie ConvertxDVD....too well... but still its get it done. I can't wait till I get my notebook with AMD64 with 4gig coming today, and I can just do some comparing...
i setup a vista ultimate (vlited) machine for a friend on 512mb and it was running over 2yr plus without a problem. it really depends on what you want to use it for
I've been installing Home Premium on my low end systems around here.. with tweaks and whatnot it works fine
