HomeGroup and Media Streaming don't work or something? Still running this in VM, so I haven't tried really putting it through it's paces yet
@ReelFiles, WHS is ment for the home so it has features like 'Home Group' and 'Media Streaming' its also why theres a 10 user limit. SBE is for Business' and there for has features like 'Domain' and 'AD' not to mention the higher 25 user limit.
I got storage server 2008 r2 essentials, if you read the comparison sheet it does say that it has media streaming and homegroup. It can join a domain but not run AD itself. So far it looks to me like WHS 2011 is just a limited version of WSSE. msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2010/11/08/announcing-windows-storage-server-2008-r2-essentials.aspx
Ooops.... I thought is was SBE you were talikng about. Maybe I should read the odd post before I reply. I may even take another look at WSSE myself.
Blame Microsoft for having a million different products that could technically be rolled into one. :/
Thanks Guys. I'm really starting to wonder why I keep my TechNet sub. Its was bad enough when we stopped getting Betas, but when we're not getting half the releases.
I got my copy of WHS 2011 Gold (RTM) setup & working great. Backed up the Main Rig & Test Rig 1. The first backup (Main Rig) took 16.3 Hrs. typical of the first backup I have noticed. Main Rig had 697 GB of data & chewed up 451.5 GB of Server storage space, lot of dup files it appears. Setup of my remote access webpage took a bit of work but its working really good now. The Static IP didn't/wouldn't work this time so I just reset WHS back to find IP addy automatically & bingo, thats all it took. RA the other PC no problem through the (now) customized webpage.
Never have used WHS 2011 simply because of being unaware and technically incompetent. However, being a Technet subscriber, did download the 2 dvds-repair and install. Install is self explanatory. What is the repair disk??. Not required except for repair??
What was the problem with setting up a static IP? Was it a problem with WHS 2011 or the network configuration? The restore disk is to restore images of your client PCs, from backups stored on the server.
Shouldn't that amount of data be stored on NAS in fist place & not be part of the machine in question as far as the backup is concerned? sebus
Microsoft Windows Storage Server Essentials 2008 R2 Embedded TEAM DVTiSO | 3.72GB And on Filesonic, and somebay torrent site etc Now we only need Dell or HP OEM SLP key sebus
@Cornmeister, I think it was ReelFiles that said its a naming mistake. But even if its not (i've herd HP are making a Headless 'Appliance' like server with WSSE) it should use a VL key. Like Windows 7 Embedded. @Sebus, Yeah, I woke this morning to find that 'TPB Delivery Service' left it in my Inbox.
Probably both, not sure, its working now though. I always had success w/ a Static IP (SIP) previously. This time though I may-of fumbled the steps between SIP, resetting the router & SIP again. If the working setup fails sometime I'll try the reset the router & SIP again (skip the first SIP, fumble). Is SIP what your using? Each of my PC's have a storage Hdd, the main rig has a big one + dual booting. *ATM, 2 PC's total combined data = 1,016.6 GB, storage space used on WHS = 565 GB 2 more PC's to backup.
