Hi, just modded a bios using the award mod tool. It was an old MSI-7046 board and I thought it would be a good candidate for a mod Anyway all went well, everest says that the SLIC is there and windows 7 works fine and activates, but Vista (a preferred choice for this machine) just says the activation was unsuccessfull, and has the usual 14 days or so to activate. I've checked the SLP, the SLIC and the Certificate and all are ok (I used the same ones to activate another computer) Bit odd, unless I've missed something I thought the SLIC2.1 was backwards compatable. Do I need to do anything special to get Vista to work. Maky thanks in advance.
I think Vista only uses slic 2.1 to activate after SP1. So Vista non-SP only activates with slic 2.0, and Vista SP1+ activate using slic 2.1 .
Just had a look, it's Vista SP2, so should be ok, must be something odd with the bios, will have a few more tries with different settings. Thanks anyway though.
Blimey I feel like such an idiot, you're quite right I managed to grab the wrong cert out of my backups instead of the new downloads. Note to self, tidy filing system Anyway many thanks again, all sorted now on both Vista and 7, yay.
With 7 you loose too much functionality, like having no arrows on the icons without breaking the os, boot times are no different between Vista SP2 and 7 - if anything vista is faster, real dreamscene functionality, being able to pin loads of icons from anywhere to the taskbar, being able to link to the c: drive without it defaulting to where on earth it want's to, major software incompatability, you know, the usual stuff.
