    The only thing that I need metro for is the Wi-Fi connection..... does anyone know of a way to connect to a new Wi-Fi network without metro?

    Install your wireless card manufacturer's proprietary (and usually more complicated) software and you can use it instead of Windows' built-in WIFI handling.
