So I'm planning to clean install Windows 8.1 x86 and use Windows Loader to activate it. Then, I will use a Windows 10 x86 ISO to upgrade it, retaining activation status. But I want to clean install Windows 10 on UEFI, will it still be automatically activated? Thank you!
Windows loader does not work on win 8 or above. You will need to use a KMS tool, then you can just change it to retail act with generic key. Installing 10 between BIOS or UEFI has no bearing on it, the only thing that will drop activation is some hardware changes or motherboard.
Thanks. So after using MS Toolkit on my clean installed Windows 8.1, how can I change to retail activation?
You need to upgrade to 10 and make sure it's act, if not then KMS it. After you check it's activated, add the generic key in settings, key ends in 3V66T. Now you can clean install. ***Hold on, I just built a Z170 for someone and it didn't work with 10586 update 1511. Just tried it. You need to install 7 an windows loader then upgrade, wait for act then clean install 10, or you can just clean install 10 pro and use KMS. If you do 7, follow the guide for upgrade problem in my sig, an rungatherosstate and save ticket trick.
If I clean install Windows 10 Home then activate it using MS Toolki, then clean install it again, will that do the trick?
The trick is that you don't need to upgrade from 7, you can just clean install 10, because you collect the activation data from 7, then place the ticket into 10, so it activates 10. If you just clean install 10 and use KMS tools, you're all set. But before June of next year you should install 7 and upgrade, this way your HWID is registered on MS server for win 10 and you are locked into the free win 10 on that machine. I doubt there will be a time when KMS doesn't work, but why not be safe. Sorry about the confusion, but people are all saying different things about activation.
Thanks for the answers. Another question: If I replace my laptop battery after Windows 10 activated and clean installed, will it still be activated? Sorry if it's a dumb question, thanks!
