I attempted to update the BIOS on my daughter's old Samsung X460 laptop so that I can put Windows 7 on it but must have used an incorrect or corrupted windows bios update file because now it fails to boot and all I have is the blue power light and no hard disk noises! It is years since I used a floppy disk to update the BIOS on a desktop so I am nervous about doing this myself now. However I have downloaded Phish17, renamed the 06LY03LZ.wph file BIOS.wph and have also put the Samsung SLIC 2.0 folder for Samsung Phoenix bios. Is this all I need or do I need the Phoenix mod tool? The list of files on the stick is as follows PH161700 BIOS.wph autorun (setup info 1KB) autorun (icon 18KB) 06LYM (.bin VLC media file 56KB SLIC.2.1 BINS folder LOCALE folder I am also unsure of exactly what to type once I get an opportunity to do so having cleared the old BIOS (a job which involves disassembling the X460). If anyone has opened up an X460 I would also like to ask a few questions!) To reflash, do I type this?- [/B] PH161700.EXE BIOS.WPH /O /Force /x /C /S [/B] or PH161700 /Y /FORCE /O /C /S BIOS.WPH How and why is the SLIC necessary and how do I use it? Please help this beginner!
I have at last cleared the BIOS but the usb memory stick with the above files does not boot nor does the screen show anything- the blue light of the power switch lights up but that is all. Can anyone look at the files above and tell me why this is not booting and then running the BIOS update? Thanks.
I have followed the CRISDISK route to creating a bootable usb drive using an xp pc yet on insertion into a usb drive and switching on there is no flash of the internal indicator light on the usb drive as though the default power-up switch doesnt automatically send power also to the usb drive. I tried burning the files onto a cd-rom using NERO (one using the bootable disk option). On power-up the green DVD drive lights whirred for about 10 seconds on each but then there was no further indication of reading the disk and again nothing on the lcd screen. I am unconvinced that my usb sticks nor cd-roms have the required files for flashing the BIOS. They are autorun.ico (18kb icon) autorun.inf (1kb setup inf) BIOS.WPH (renamed correct Samsung Phoenix file) MINIDOS.SYS (3Kb system file) PHLASH16.EXE (113Kb .exe file) Any pointers would be welcome. I'm out of my depth here!
