Looking at windows 10 makes me remember how clean and wonderful 98 was. Yes, I know that was a long time ago! But win 10 is looking great. XP also had a good run. What do you guys think?
Windows 98 was the best. Windows XP is new Windows 98. Windows 7 is new Windows XP. So, Windows 10 will be new Windows 7, right?
When windows 98 came out, it was good.... better then win95. Xp was great the same way... for it's time. 7 was a huge improvement from Vista, wich was a piece of crap same way was millenium. When microsoft put windows 7 on the market, they forgot all the touch screen (telephone, tablet, pc touch etc) so that's why they came fast with windows 8. Now Windows 10 is coming, i've been testing this one for 3 months. They are still improving the product. We will see. Lievre
I was just thinking that Just like with XP, it was only with SP2 that it became good. I believe the term 'Fisher Price' was used a lot when it was released. While your all getting sentimental What about the two most reliable versions of Windows ever NT4 and 2000
Personally i have good memories of 2003. OS os i supported for years without issues. The first one i became certified in (MCSE)
Good point, my WHS has been running almost non stop since release. Only issues I've had were down to getting a RAID card to work as Non RAID with DE.
There's big difference between Vista and ME. Vista got service packs that made a huge difference. Anyone who have done a clean install of Vista SP2 knows what I'm talking about, it's not bad at all, just launching way too late. IMO, the biggest is between Vista RTM and Vista SP2, not between Vista SP2 and W7 RTM. Number of days between RTM releases - Between Vista and W7: 987 days. Between W7 and W8: 1106 days. The reasons? Vista wasn't successful, W7 lacked proper touch support, W8 wasn't successful... In the end tho, MS seem to aim for a new version every three years (not counting W8.1 or older versions), which seems to be the case with W10 as well. I guess that's going to change in the future.
Agreed, in fact theres still people calling 'Windows 7 RTM' Vista SP3. One of the main problems with Vista was how 'Heavy' it was. We had it on two powerful Vista 'Compatible' workstations and it was great, did everything asked of it better/faster than the XP workstations they replaced. This was then compounded by allowing OEM's to make Vista 'Capable' PC's. As most of us here know, just because we can install something, it doesn't mean it will run or work well.
