I have no idea what I will do, but I might get windows 9 when it comes out but microsoft has a way of screwing everything up.
MS has made a bazillion gazillion dollars, if that is "screwing everything up", I'd love to see "not screwing everything up".
IMO they have a way of screwing up every other OS version. 95 was decent 98 was crap 98SE was decent ME was crap XP was good Vista was crap Win7 was good you see where this is going...
...to be honest, it all depends on the hardware requirements for '9'. - eg. currently I run 8.1 update - 32 bit on a couple of 'older' boxes. Due to the hardware requirements for 8.1 I can't run 64 bit (without mod.) on these boxes but 32 bit runs fine. - Btw, 8 - 64 bit runs fine too. Since I don't think hardware requirements for '9' will be lower-spec than for 8.1 - ...probably yes.
If Microsoft can at Least Lower the hardware Specification/Requirements of this Windows 9 so that people with very Old Computers or Laptops can successfully Install and use it without Problems, then i think more people will go all out and get it. However, Windows 9 should be a Light OS that runs smoothly without Driver Issues etc, irrespective of the type of System that it is Installed on, then i dare say even some die hard XP Lovers will be Jumping Ship onto Windows 9. Though, this is just my Opinion ... Cheers Guys and do all have an Enjoyable Weekend too...
I am one of those who made a big jump from Windows xp to Windows 8.1. Of course, I bought new hardware which is more than enough for Windows 8.1. Core i3, 8 GB of RAM and so on. Also, I have good Internet connection. With all that said, my experience is that Windows 8.1 is very good OS, stable as a rock. I don't wait for Windows 9 at all. Classic Start Menu is not needed here anymore. The only downside of 8.1 is that it doesn't unload modern ui apps from RAM when closed, so I must kill them from Task Manager. With 8 Gb of RAM, it is not an issue, but it could be with less RAM.
There's a few different ways to close them. You can alt-f4 (my personal fav) I believe you can either click on the X button or right click it or something... and you can drag the app downward and hold it for a few seconds.
You do not need to close them, the OS will close them for you if it requires RAM. If you need to restart a App you can simply close & reopen it. ModernUI is "Smart" with resource usage unlike applications on the Desktop.
Aha! So, that is my reaction as a long-time XP user. In XP, every time a program stayed in RAM even after having been closed, it was a signal for me that something was wrong, unless it was a case of "Close to tray". Thanks for the info.
I also love XP, unfortunately Microsoft has ditched, but there are some editions on the net fully updated until July 2014
Hi Murphy, Actually, I regularly use X button to close Store apps. I Have just tried downward gesture and alt+F4 and checked status of RAM. It turns out that down gesture and alt+F4 close apps completely, and "X" button does not .Thanks for the tip.
