Main OS, I just migrated from Win7 the other day. Everything seems to work just fine, even my obscure Rocketfish 7.1 CreativFake sound card works. Also gotta love booting up in 3 seconds! (literary)
Hello, I'm fairly new to the community, but ive been lurking around for quite some time now. I was reluctant to migrate from Windows 7 during the beta phases because of the whole having to reinstall once final version came out, but I immediately installed Windows 8 once RTM was released and I could get my hands on it. After a couple of days of continuous usage I have decided to keep Windows 8 as my main OS. With the new UI it was a bit complicated, at first I had no idea what I was doing or where anything was, but as time went on, I began discovering all the features, and how to handle the new system, and now I am completely aware of the location of everything on my computer and how to access it, and I have only been using windows 8 for about 4 or 5 days. So far no compatibility issues with my old programs or drivers, a lot of improvements can be found, and to be honest, I love the new "metro" UI only thing I resent is not having a touch screen device to install it on. I am definitely keeping windows 8 as my main OS and will be upgrading all of the computers in my house to windows 8 as soon as an activation method is found.
Definitely Main. The start screen really grows on ya. Doesn't have to be about apps. I find it's very easy to organize shortcuts in there, never again will I have icons on my desktop. I'm actually one of those noobs who used to click start, programs and then browse the tiny folders and pick out my program... (sometimes typing it into the start menu wouldn't show them so I did have to browse through it.) This looks sexy and much easier to find what I need. Oh yeah, it performs like a dream
I'm happy with Windows 7 so I can't see myself jumping ship to Windows 8 anytime soon. Maybe when SP1 comes out for W8 I'll look at it again.
Primary OS. Although I was reading some forums here at MDL about the stealing of personal info and so on. blah blah. I use it as primary cause I can play games. Although I have to dual boot with linux so whenever I want to log in to some sensitive accounts in the net, I will use linux. Personally I feel more secured with linux so far although I am no expert about linux but there is no secured OS across the world but most of attacks are windows OS's. ( I think)
Hello Well after 2 weeks of testing, I found that on the same machine with the same software windows 8x64 is a 7x64 casserole compared to windows is much tros slow loading and execution. More FiltreSreen is a sieve and all that is on your PC is controlled by microsoft which is an invasion of privacy. So I restored my 2 partitions windows 7 and windows finally abandons No. 8 will be a complete commercial failure. Good luck to you.
I read that post (Smartscreen.) Might be a definitive issue for me, too - possibly. I'm not paranoid about this aspect of the OS but I don't like, if it's real, M$ 'vetting' what I install on my PC -period. Even though, as others have pointed out, it can be 'turned off.' Reading about Smartscreen on the net raises more questionsthan it answers. And, of course, M$ denies there's anything devious about it. Maybe so, but M$ has a reputation for automating OS functions (to make things 'easier for the user.) It doesn't seem impossible that this trend could eventually compromise user privacy, especially with push towards cloud-based apps (hell, look at Google's tracking.) I'd want to keep any eye on how far they go.
I'll be dual-booting Windows 8 and Windows XP. Because I'm a retro gamer (I play games from 1984-2004) and Windows XP comes in handy. Since Windows 8 can't run most of those games.
Maybe MS will realize how such a big f***up they made and they release a patch/add-on/service pack (LOL) to add Aero for those that like Aero as an 'option' (which in due course it may increase 'SALES' and adoption of the new OS)... (but.... "wishful thinking..."). Windows 8 could be a winner after all since the underhood seems to be a lot better and more efficient than Windows 7, but a lot of people (and companies) will wait/skip this version (someone said 'Vista'?) waiting to what would be next for Windows 9 (or whatever they decide to call it) thinking Metro theme is a 'retro' look - and useless for some - specially Companies, I see the users in mine and I think.. humm.. there is no way in hell these people will get close to Win8, based on passed experiences, my company moved from windows XP to Wndows 7 last year and you could not believe the amount of complains about it - (and in reality, does it look good? no! - so many think - me included). OS is not about just 'functionality' anymore like in the old days, it has to be about look too... people stares at computers screens all over the world (sometimes many hours) and they need/would want to 'like' what they see in front of them, some like, some don't... it would be wise to have a choice and try to keep 'a lot' more people happy.. the more people happy the more SALES they make... who wouldn't like to have more sales in their business? I will move to Windows 8 soon as my main OS but not because I like but because I need to know it (and my type of job requires it, so better to get to it sooner that later).. ho! well... here we go...
Uglified, that's the word I've been looking for As someone who has dual boot WinXP/Win7 cause I still don't trust Win7 I won't be making Win8 my primary OS anytime soon I have loaded it onto an old plug in hard drive for test Marginally faster, but the front end has been, that's the word I've been looking for ....
