Installed Win 8 Enterprise x64 English friday and I love it. Now just waiting for my key to get rid of the watermarks.
I have to say that I have changed my opinion since I voted. I'm now using Windows 8 as my primary OS on both my laptops. And with Classic Shell it's a dream. Don't see why I'm ever going back to Windows 7 as my primary OS.
I will use Windows 8 because I want the latest technology available. It works with my fairly recent hardware to stuff that's 5 years old without a problem and it seems that there is nothing but new and enhanced technology and methods to improve the experience under the hood. Once I get to the desktop, most people would say it's just Windows 7 again. I will have to learn some new shortcuts and methods of interacting with the system, but that learning curve is small for a tech like myself. I do not see myself using the Windows 8 UI (previously know as Metro) other than the occasional start menu key and clicking on a program that launches to the desktop. I have noted that Windows Defender is now a full antivirus and Smart Screen is the same thing new antiviruses do with cloud sourcing the safety of files (McAfee Artemis/Global Threat Intelligence, Symantec/Norton Insight, Kaspersky Security Network, ESET Cloud Reputation, ect). This extra scanning does slow down access to files downloaded from the net the first time it's run. Of course the more people that Use Windows 8 (or IE9/10), the better the service will become in the future.
And the point? There is no difference between the two edition. Pro is for the normal user, Enterprise is for large business. The only important difference is the activation method. Win8 Pro = Retail (+ KMS), Win8 Enterprise = MAK/KMS. Can't see any reason why you should take up space on one computer with both systems.
I guess even if I do not like it much over win 7, I will use it as primary OS once driver availability becomes better and some more robust tweaks are available to customise desktop (relating to fonts, start menus). One question: I had huge chkdsk errors in win 8 cp. This happened when I installed cp, then recovered acronis to win 7. For RP and RTM, I did not see chkdsk on recovering to win 7. However, I still deleted all partitions and rebuilt them. Obviously that takes a day on close to 8-10 TB of data. Can I hope to not see chkdsk errors in win 7 after previously using win 8. If that be the case, I can keep two images (win 7 and 8) and switch back and forth.
Yes, we exchanged posts on that problem. Fast startup may be useful but it should not be an issue on (i) SSD (ii) cold start (say in the morning after switching off in the night). Since I experienced that problem in CP, this problem has not happened in RP and RTM for connected hard disks, but has happened on external e-sata devices in RTM. I will disable fast startup in win 8 and see. Even though it did not happen, I deleted partitions anyway and rebuilt them. I am now looking at dual boot but two images-win 7 and win 8. That takes only 5-6 mins to switch with acronis.
