Hello, I installed & no problem whith Windows8-RT-KB2756872-x64. I use simple boot & got used very well without trying to use skin, star orbit... I'm getting used to as I am accustomed to Windows 1995 & XP...
For me dual boot: partition #1 70 GB with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 activated by means modded bios (Asus P8Z77V-LX) partition #2 50 GB with Windows 8 PRO x64 VL kms activated the boot disk is a Corsair Force3 ssd 120 GB Boot Manager from Paragon HD suite 2012 But the main OS, the every day using and working OS is the Windows 7 Ultimate.
Primary OS. Win 8 RTM is so fast and Modern-UI (Metro) is awesome. Though I have to admit I was skeptical in the beginning. Boot Time on a HDD incl. BIOS POST: 20 seconds to lockscreen Shutdown-Time: 6 seconds Awesome OS!
Im using Pro x64 RTM as my main OS, its very fast. Boot to startmenu only 9 seconds on my laptop with SSD disk
In your opinion. (By the by, I switched to 8 as primary OS since the Consumer Preview, and am now running Pro x64 RTM as a - surprise - desktop OS; no touch hardware anywhere.) Why? Pretty much the usual reasons one upgrades an operating system - better performance on existing hardware, better performance running my applications and games, and I need fewer - FAR fewer, in fact - utilities. For example, I no longer need a virtual disk utility (mooted by built-in ISO mounting), antivirus utilities (Windows Defender is a rebadged Security Essentials, which I was using in 7, and both share definitions with Forefront Enterprise), disk defragmentation (Disk Optimizer replaced Diskeeper Pro Premier), etc. The only reason I still run Oracle VirtualBox is because my Q6600 doesn't support SLAT/EPT - however, when I upgrade to an i5-3570K, VB becomes mooted as well.
If you have an X-Fi or later, drivers are available from Creative right now; in the specific case of the X-Fi XtremeMusic/Gamer, you want driver 2.18.0015 (absolutely identical to the Windows 7 driver).
Yep, those are the reasons I run W8 Pro also. Better performance and everything just works. At the end of the day I've done more on a W8 machine than on a W7 machine. Cheers.
Using Win8 Pro as my primary OS with no problems for the last few weeks, with Start8 app though. It's faster than Win7 and has few good improvements to boot.
win8 overall is faster than 7 as the UI and app are gpu accellerated...you can notice this even on old machines with 2gb ram
hmm.. In my desktop, win8 is fast in everything than win7.. from opening a windows or running a game.. everything is fast and smooth in win8, nobody ranting here that win8 is 1000 faster than win7.. win8 have very notable improvements thtsall!! here they share the things they like in win8, why are you so objective about their opinions?.. i feel great difference in everything, if u dont have any improvements, please check your PC I love the modern UI, modern apps, store, messaging, maps, games, skydrive, mail... everything integrated Microsoft is managed to add everything with a increase in performance.. my pc uses 300MB less RAM than win7!!
now hear me, i used windows7 from its beta, and now im using windows 8 from developer preview, now using RTM on my desktop. I know how clean install of windows 7 is like and i know how it feels in later stage. Now i know what a win8 clean install is, and i know it on later stage.. im not having 2 pcs to "compare" and im not doing any "benchmarks" im repeating this "Win8 is faster than Win7 in everything" in my opinion!! got it?? i dont want to or im in on need to prove anything to anyone, this is just a damn poll
I am sure I will use it as my Main Rig Main OS, I will probably wait for 6 months or so, before switching. I already have the W8 (Pro) RTM installed on my Main Rig (1 or the 6 OSs installed) but it isnt being used yet as the Main OS.
I did. W7 with SSD is as as fast as W8 with SSD. No _significant_ improvement on my hardware (32 bit, dual core, 3 meg ram). It may be that W8 on a 64 bit machine may be faster than W7, I don't know. Anyhow the Metro stuff is annoying, no ranting, it just makes things more complicated, not easier. The fastet running OS on my machine (really, I _did_ time my programs) is Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop. But then the Linux power management is worse than W7. W8 does not count here because it does not provide all the drivers.
this conversation getting so funny, "Window 8 is faster only in your imagination" well ok, If im living in a dream where windows 8 is faster, then let me to continue my dream.. and you shouldn't take care of anyone who are blabbering in their imagination like me(according to you), lets enjoy win7 in your "real life" and let me enjoy Win8 in my so called "dream"....OMG I LOVE THIS AWESOME DREAM
