A definitely NO to Windows 10 due to the perpetual beta stage that seems to be in and the idiotic phone-like interface aka "ModernUI" which is nothing else than a "revamped" 1995 Microsoft BOB. I haven't seen any real improvements under the hood to justify Windows 10 over Windows 7 SP1.
Why would you need a mini tool if you must leave everything alone, does it not auto upgrade to perform correctly? So you are saying if we choose to shut down the outbound traffic through our firewall it will no longer perform correctly? Modified OS here and performs correctly If you are looking for a desktop environment in this multi-device OS modifications maybe required. I like ghetto windows 10, but unfortunately that is not what the OP asked so if it was not modified I would not use it. Remove-ProvisionedAppxPackage is required and doing so is certified on MS site, with a how to. They should all be uninstallable without dsim. If we are taking about a desktop environment and if you are not going to spend some time making windows 10 all it can be my answer would be stick with 7. Regards
This is my suggestion for all the people who are convinced that MS is failing them by moving forward with Windows.
You inform him that he must leave everything alone to preform correctly. and then you inform me it is your choice how you modify your system . I see no difference in remove telemetry packages, shutting down services, modifying your firewall, modifying your group policies or blocking IP's to that of modifying the update delivery method. Yours is software based, since you appears to need updates, where mine just disables an update service of LTSB, it's the individual's choice how he/she modifies their OS. MDL's project WHDownloader and Dsim for updates, is also a choice. It is a persons choice how they tweak their system for their use and most likely both of ours preforms correctly. Regards
Thank you very much for your kind suggestion, but IMHO, Microsoft took a giant leap to 1995 with the release of Windows 8.x and 10. You should send that as a X-mas gift to Steve Balmer and Steven Sinofsky, because those "two wise men" pi$$ed on Windows. Literally...
Balmer was a buffoon and I was thrilled when he finally was booted. Progress always comes with a cost. If you are really worried about telemetry, you should be much more concerned about what your phone and credit cards give away.
Don't have a smartphone anymore and don't use credit cards. I like hard cold ca$h. I'm not worried about telemetry...anymore, unless Linux Mint starts broadcasting
Smartphones do not need internet connectivity - Credit card's are verified securely Even if Mint goes commercial (let's face it we can't live on love and fresh air and compete with multi-billion $ enterprises) - it will at least be in an open, honest and optional way.
Was not talking about credit card security. meant tracking and purchase history. Even "dumb" phones have GPS tracking these days. Most don't actually turn it off when you tell them to.
Another Linux snob heard from. Reminds me of the days when iSheep all believed that the Church of Jobs would protect them from Malware forever.
Clearly, the discussion is still quite evenly balanced. Many feel that with the advent of many telemetry-blocking solutions, they have regained a certain amount of privacy/control. Others don't seem to like windows 10 regardless of telemetry. Some are very clear - stay away from 10 - as we can't be sure how much & exactly what is being given away. Yes many recommend Linux - but realistically after the investment in software & the fact that many use their pc's in relation to their day job, I honestly think this is a answer for a niche user-base. Right now, I think that this boils down to one real question - stay with win 8.1 or upgrade to 10? Is there any significant advantage (except DirectX 12) to making the move for non gamers?
Regarding dx12, it is nothing to regard in context to non-gamers in general. I am pro linux, but would NOT suggest it as a migrating path for most windows users (note: most Linux communities even if helpful at all to new comers, are still arrogant putzes with elitist attitudes and charm (hah)..). Apple is out of the question. 8.1 or 10 matters little, nor does 7 for that matter. Telemetry is in all of them and telemetry can all be toasted easily depending on edition used in all of them. Asking opinions on what OS to use is like asking when you should change your shorts (although the Linux communities would say never change them, and the apple community doesn't know how to use them!!). Pick what works for you, whats comfortable and gets the job done. No matter how fast you go, someone will always go faster, pick your pace and move forward on your own. Now install Windows and give MS your data.
Metro completely disguised and non-existent with classic shell, dx 12 , Great transfer speeds from ssd, hd, and usb3. Privacy appears to be being gone over, unlike hidden 7, with a lot of protection guides. Is a no log vpn another wall? Regards
I'm yet to make the jump to 10 myself, and I genuine don't seem to be suffering on 8.1 in any regard. In terms of resource usage - is 10 more 'heavy' than 8.1?
The hardware - especially GPU works great with the OS, and the animation of OS function is more easy on the eyes i tried to see which is faster with slow motion recording didnt big different but when opening new tab in ff its looks smoother, it draw the screen better might be the new Directx might be the OS Explorer handles - I checked windows explorer.exe process handles windows 10 have quiet high use around 1500-2000 windows 7 less then 800 Even after stripping down the windows around to 7GB footprint install, restart taking bit long in the logoff process and saving all data back to ssd. The folder of metro applications have lots of tiny files around 15k files[?] make it hard work for hdd Default application also big issue in win10, hard to set, sometimes ppl saying updates reset it Telemetry - apart of the privacy many saying is reduce OS responsive... overall its good OS, best to test on vhd before moving
It's not really going to matter, I read somewhere that the spyware will soon be on all OS's (You really didn't think they would leave us a place to hide). Windows 10 is the latest and best, but I guess in the long run it's up to the individual, So far @RGadelha could use his 3d printer to make us great OS.
At least (so far) with 7 & 8/8.1 we still have the capability of turning off updates completely and not having any sneak by. At least not yet. Whether it's still that way in another week or day, who knows. The fact that we cannot trust MS unsupervised anymore with Windows Update is a shame, but if that's the price to pay to keep a 'clean' system, so be it. Again I go back to the telemetry--don't really care about it. Tweaked to "Basic", it gives out as much data off your system as Error Reporting in any other version of Windows. IE=no worry to me. Lack of control over updates is the 'hard sell' for me IMHO.
