My experience is that it is clearly not a completely cumulative update from April 2014 iso. I get around 43 updates after installing the 3 Nov 2014 rollup updates. It could be optional from MS because it is a partial rollup of previous updates and so a user with fully updated system has already perhaps the important updates from this rollup. Finally seeing how recently MS has republished its recent rollups and optionals (Aug 2014 top of mind), would it make sense to wait a while and see if this also gets republished or reissued.
Hello All, You can also start from the last IR4 refresh ( download your version with MS media creation tool or here on ESD topic ) and apply the 3 november updates and then there will be only 26 "small" updates to apply... Working here without any problem. Edit :The Size in "recovery" (ESD compression) for the 2 indexs in X64 (Pro/Core) is smaller than 4GB (French version). After added NetFx3.5 + 10 updates + Defender 100 Mb update + November KB890830, sysprep and recapture, the PRO x64 in WIM by example is just smaller than 4GB here.
All monthly rollups released first as optional, and next month (sometimes after 2 month) it get switched to important
I do remember 2975719 Aug 2014 moving from optional to important sometime in Sep. (4-6 weeks after rollout). I am not sure if this is the final or we will get the same update next week too re-released.
Yeah I do feel your pain, it's a real PITA... But the real limitation/culprit lies on UEFI specs for USB boot, the famous FAT32 file system.
Yep. Could always go split wim but it occurs to me that I'm better off not integrating my base drivers. Since I deploy through WinPE using Dism, I could always inject the drivers at this stage. Bonus would be I could have updated drivers on the fly without rebuilding my wim... Still, I'd say it'll be just a touch under 4GB this round...
I think it works for me now. I use a fresh Windows 8.1 copy. NTLite beta to integrate my kb to install.wim so simple it was. I did not think myself that we would have an unused copy of Windows 8.1.
Hello, for information : Starting from last IR4 REFRESH ESD "9600.17053.winblue_refresh.140923-1144" > with ESD decrypter : convert to ISO and WIM (see ESD REPO topic) > integrated all KB's at the same time (offline) with dism. List of all KB. needed in attachement ( NET 3.5 updates included ). No problem to create UEFI bootable drive in ESD compression... for WIM smaller than 4GB > sysprep > resetbase and recapture WIM.
When integrating offline in most cases the 'Pending' flag is set, so you cant do a Resetbase. The Way around is to install in Audit Mode, perform Resetbase and then Sysprep/Generalize to OOBE.
