I would seriously advise against disabling superfetch.Disabling it will just hurt performance  .I remember when GTA4 came out and many had problems running it on vista. Some smartguy advised them to turn off SF.I told then it would only hurt performance and go figure - few days after most who had turned off SF had a result of diminished performance.

Ive never had problem with it.Besides Win7 SF seems lot more optimized as thing in prefetch folder are updated very often(once a day or so)wheres vista had thing in that folder months old,old stuff i had long forgotten i even had lol.

Regarding the issue with thread starter - i too had this problem yesterday but it was due to one of my disks failing.Simply appeared-dissapeared and had slowdown every 2 sec.For the moment i unplugged it and all is fine with speed.

Also Intel sucks with drivers.Atleast current Win7 driver. For example they say they have driver ready for october  .Heh.Takes 3 months to write driver lol?

Were they the manual updates that have been floating around the forums or normal windows updates? Starting to tear my hair out now a wee bit over this as my hard disk is fine :(

No :) .The guarantee period is long over.I will have to take it repaired some comp shop i guess. All data was backed up so even if driver is totally dead i didnt lose anything.Well what can i say - damn seagate  .This drive has had problems before.Blown MBR etc.Already promised i will buy only WD from now on so the new drive to replace this will be 100% WD

Regarding the issue. The slowdows were caused by the OS constantly trying to acces the drive. Then stopping and beginning again...

I've uninstalled the updates and the problem remains. How did you test as to whether it was the HDD trying to be accessed by windows constantly? Maybe my HDD tests were wrong  The problems remain and when installing programs with installshield or windows installer, everything lags and freezes that is also running. Firefox and internet explorer espeically take ages of time to open and constantly hang while a program is installing, and back to normal speed after it is all finished. The matrix storage won't work with my system either and have turned on and off superfetch with no luck. Anyone have ideas? And is anyone having this problem also?
