What's the difference between server 2000 and 2008? I have a fully licensed 2000, is it worth the added expense to replace it with 2008?

There is a vast difference between 2000 and 2008. If your server is powerful enough, go with 2008.

On the same hardware - no.

When you buy a new system, go with Server 2012. Windows Server 2008 is Vista based - don't "upgrade" to a five year old technology today.
