I see. So I guess trying to obtain a HWID is no longer an option when upgrading from 8.1 to the latest 10 (1709)

No no no no no no no.

Both are excellent programs but different beasts. You really need to understand oem and kms activations :tooth:

Dude, I've been a member of this forum since 2008, cut the smart-ass demeanor! You asked for a tool to activate Windows 10.

I know exactly how does one and the other work. I understand perfectly how and what OEM:SLP and OEM MSDM table activation are and also how KMS activation work. I've coded little apps using both methods.

Do you even know what MSDM stands for, without googling?

He reacted at the post about comparing DAZ Windows Loader and KMS activation in one sentence.

They can't be compared in any way.

The OP already mentioned that DAZ won't work.

    BUT:
You can't use Daz Windows Loader to activate Windows 10, you can only use it to activate a Win 7 SP1 install and upgrade (or use the genuineticket.xml) to 10 and get a free HWID for 10, so not for directly activating 10. SO calling one better then the other is a bit weird.

The best KMS solution atm, inmho is Microsoft Toolkit.

It is not about what is the best, it's about what it can activate.

For 7 SP1 it's DAZ WL (pro can be kms and loader activated, enterprise only KMS). By emulating a real OEM bios (on non slic) systems, it's the best next to genuine activation.
For 10 it's only KMS (and the best and most uptodate = KMS_VL_ALL v19 by @abbodi1406).

I'm a bit confused by this. Does it mean that even after Microsoft ended the assistive technologies upgrade method, it's somehow possible to upgrade Windows 7 to activated version of Windows 10 on a new machine (which isn't in Microsoft's database)? Even the DAZ-activated non-legit copies of Windows 7? If so, how?

First, MSFT never ended anything to get a free HWID, i know some websites incorrectly reported in the past that the free HWID could only be established by the Upgrade_Assistant (the actual tool that is used at assistive update website).

All options like upgrading by USB/DVD/ISO/Upgrade Assistant tool, will still generate a free HWID, also inserting old genuine 8.x and 7 keys still works, and the gatherosstate.exe, to generate a genuineticket.xml, option still works.

Okay. So, if I grab Windows10Upgrade9252.exe from Microsoft website and run it on activated Windows 7, I'll still get a free W10 activation?

That would mean that pulling the link to upgrade assistant from Assistive technologies page was pretty much a cosmetic webpage edit with no real consequences to the tool's functionality..? That would be terrific.

You can also just use a mounted or extracted iso and upgrade.

Ok I managed to get Windows 8.1 activated through a KMS server. I didn't update it yet so its fresh. Now I want to install Windows 10. I don't want to screw this up and want to take the proper steps. Do I create a GenuineTicket now and copy it over to a clean install of Windows 10? Or do I force the upgrade download ?

Upgrade using a Win 10 10586 aka 1511 iso and next install or upgrade to the most current build.

    Official Genuineticket.xml won't work.

Will version 10.0.10240 (1507) work or does it have to be 10586?

Update: The above version works. Now if I run slmgr /dlv it shows a VOLUME_MAK channel. Before in Windows 8.1 it said KMS Client. Is this ok and should I continue to upgrade to the latest version?

Update 2: Upgraded to the latest version and all is good. Still licensed under VOLUME_MAK

So lets say one day I need to reinstall Windows 10, do I just do a clean install from USB and it should automatically activate?
