Hey guys i tried to set windows updates from gpedit.msc to "enabled" and to "2-notify download and install" but it automatically downloads the drivers. even using this script download the drivers...the only option is to disable win update service. if u want to check if the script has worked for you just go in this folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and check if it's empty. if it's not...that means windows updated downloaded some updates.
I found a way to keep Windows Update service running while disabling the automatic update feature. Simply go into Task Scheduler and disable all the scheduled tasks in the "Update Orchestrator" and "Windows Update" folders. Now Windows will only check for updates when you want to.
Negative. It flips a registry from 0 to 1. Stopping wuauserv is just to prevent the system from encountering errors. It will restart wuauserv whenever you manually check for updates.
How do you know this? by the time you flip the switch with this script it should have already updated your drivers. The only way to test this would be to mod the registry pre-install and possibly do some unattend setting, depending on how Windows Setup is being handled.
I'm just a control freak. I like to choose when I check for updates rather than have them done for me. You're right in that there shouldn't be any hysteria about the actual updates themselves. I've personally never encountered an update that caused my system significant errors.
No updates available lol Yesterday it gave me silverlight and another update, which I could select either or both or none, when the normal WU didn't show any updates Im thinking, disable WU either in services, or GPEDIT, and just use that
I want the choice of what to download and install. I've never installed stupid updates like Silverlight, malware removal tool, updates for IE (I don' use IE so I don't need IE updates), several optional updates, etc. and never will. If this means no Windows 10 (even if it's free) for me then OK, I don't care. I'd rather use XP SP3 with choice to do what I want than this.
Always install IE security updates even if you don't use it. Many system processes like Explorer make good use of the underlying engine of IE (Trident).
There is a right way to disable for new features in Windows 10 Home, but not disable security updates ?
They are one and the same. The couple features updates they've had were listed as security updates and also had security fixes. So no. It's not like previous versions. It's all or none.
That is why I use the Metered connection option I can see the needed updates then download them when or ware i chooses for off line installation
Hi, i've just applied my reg tweak and also your script after a clean install and before connecting the pc to a network...so after connecting to internet it downloaded the drivers...
