Build 162, Asus Xonar D2X, Uni Drivers 1822 I can only get sound at 16bit and 24bit at 44100 Hz in Stereo Mode Any other configuration and I get no sound at all. If I change the speaker to Quad, 5.1, or 7.1 I get no sound at all. I don't have to reinstall the drivers to get sound back, just restore the settings. T
This is not driver related problem. Even in VM audio can't work properly without changing bitrate and restarting windows audio service.
Use UNI Xonar drivers as they support your card and support W10. If you still have no sound do what I said in my previous post. Latest drivers are UNI Xonar 1822 v1.75a rev.2
What I did to fix this- First my speaker set : MoBo has 3 x 3.55 mm ports... So I set Blue as Cener/subwoofer; Green as Front; Pink as Rear, now from drop down I select 5.1. Now sound doesn't work, WMP fails to play mp3s. So now goto Realtek Driver panel > default format tab > select "24 Bits 48000 khz (Studio Quality)". Sound still dont work. So now go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab > Select Speaker > Configure > Check if 5.1 is selected. If not select it and apply. Now again Speakers > Properties > Advanced > Select "24 Bits 48000 khz (Studio Quality)". Now sound should work.
This is a known issues there are litterally hundreds of posts on technet and insiders forums and hub. It not only affects realtek but also other cards. It is a repeat of a previous audio issue breaking but different. They fixed the previous issue now this is broke. There is no working solution anyone has found, but it is something that is changed in these last 2 or 3 builds of Win 10 TP. It is affecting both 10159 and 10162. /edit no it is not limited to specific sound chips...it is affecting realtek chips ( multiple), creative, and intel from my googling. I have a realtek ALC 1150 chip...so not limited Personally I have gotting 16 bit to work even on restart, you just cannot change it either in the realtek control center or in the windows sound control properties once it is working. If you change it, it breaks for all and then requires a restart. For me just some sound now is better then nothing and I am sure it will get fixed as it is a MS problem and not specific to a particular sound chip vendor. Also I had to switch to stereo...and just kept trying various bit and hrx combos until I found one that worked. Also another possible temp workaround that might give 5.1 or 7.1 sound correctly is to use the MS basic sound driver and do not install the manufacture driver and software.
the audio stack on windows 10 was rewritten audio drivers have to be rewritten to work with it correctly.
Yeah, and they didn't just rewrite it and throw it in the last build. It worked fine in all previous builds, 10130, 10147, but after that they broke something. ALC 892 here and my Blue Snowball Microphone both don't work. Blue Snowball doesn't even have a driver it uses the Windows Universal Plugin Play audio driver. Changing bit rate makes the microphone stop working as well. So it seems to me it is 100% on MS end.
