I was activated on 10160, clean install skipping product key and it shows as blocked, but after that I activated with W269N kms.xspace
To get activated with the generic Retail key, it needs the upgrade from 7/8/8.1 to 10 first, to gather the HWID for MS Server, afterwards the fresh install will activate with that key online.
Yes. MS will not block any gVLK key. The only way they might do is to update KMS protocol to block KMS activtion.
I must have accidentally put that key into Windows this week when my VHD deactivated. Looks like Win 7 to Win 10 upgrade will be happening sooner than I expected ; ) Thank you for letting me know!
@dhjohns sorry but i don't see time bomb. Can you post screenshot with timebomb (build 10240). Thanks.
I just tried that myself here on 10240, and it says "The machine is permanently activated"... No time bomb? I wasn't expecting that. And I don't plan on upgrading Windows 7 until sometime in early August.
Default EVAL 'Timebomb' won't show here. Even the early Previews stated 'permanently', although 'winver' and 'slmgr /dlv' showed the EVAL End Time .
