How to install this OEM img file. I installed 1 on a Insider Image of 10240, activated, no time bomb. OK next I tried it on a spare computer with Win 8.1 Pro on it, do not rename file, Bring up Cmd prompt, type chkdsk /r /f , and press enter on your keyboard, then a Y, then reboot, it now checks your disk for errors and fixes them, if you have errors Win 10, will not install, then run sfc /scannow in CMD Prompt to repair the partition with Win 7,8, 8.1, Remember Win 7 must be updated to include sp1 and 8 upgraded to 8.1. Probably the most important thing is to disable all startup programs, go to taskbar, right chick, select Task Manager, Startup Tab, right click each item in here, and select disable, after you have upgraded your computer you may need to come by to this place and enable these programs if they are not already. The img file worked for me installing Win 10 Pro, it never asked me if I wanted Home/Pro so maybe it determines what you need, Now very important, when screen comes up asking you what to save/ this is the difference between upgrade and clean install. You want to the first time and only choose save everything, this way it upgrades you/if you choose save nothing it will proceed as clean install and fail. To be a OEM upgrade I thought it would only read OEM Keys, but mine was 8.1 Pro with WMC, activated, no time bomb or on image of 10240, just be sure all you people who are going to help people when this goes down/ they do need to run Check disk above, need to run sfc /scannow on partition they are going to put Win 10, and most of all stop all startup programs, directions above for upgrade and the afterwards clean install, and to reinable them after clean install. You may wish to make a listing in notepad with all these directions and save it to your desktop to copy/paste, so you wont burn your wittle fingers off typing during the rush
OMG Man...can you break up the wall of text...was starting to make my eyes bleed But good stuff...you know we will be repeating that a few thousand times in the coming days.
That dummy package is there only for servicing purposes to ensure proper installation of prerelease updates/builds. Similarly how even the retail Windows Phone has PRERELEASE_PROTECTED metapackage in to ensure correct upgrades to PFD or Insider builds It is a parent metapackage for Microsoft-Windows-Diagtrack-Internal-Package
this is what I get. this is a clean install no update no nothing just the iso I did postimg.org/image/izncqw901/ sorry I cant post pics up due to my low post count and im running a hp wx4600 workstation 8gb ram 12 tb hdd space 1gb vid card NVidia but I did find something difrent from this dvd and windows update dvd the install.wim is different size the"oem" one is 348638kb the windows update install.wim is 3399017kb more info in the pic postimg.org/image/k9bpb3lu1/
Actually I think will just go hang out at the beach for a couple of weeks starting on July 29 and just stay drunk.
For what its worth I just upgraded a Win 8.1 Core OEM HP Laptop to 10, chose to "keep nothing", installed and it activated fine but it was not a "clean install". The root of the C drive still had windows.old and some other crap you dont get on a clean install. Used MTK to back up the key (non-generic), booted from the usb wiped all partitions and clean installed using the pulled key from he upgrade. Worked flawlessly. Permanently activated Home. I tried to make a bigger wall of single line text but it seems you did a better job.
Even though 7 pro upgraded just fine to this, it was activated using the same key as was given some Insiders. Since my Win7 is qualified for the free upgrade, I though I had best revert to that install in case this odd-ball upgrade would negate that qualification. So I restored the 7 Pro image and am happily using it now.
Good to know as well! I installed StartisBack++ RC onto the VM. That seems to fix the horribleness of the touch control panel. Also being forced to search via internet leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Means everything I'm looking for is broadcast to the world but hey least its easier to get to pron.
You can't compare the sizes of the install.wim. There are two indexes in the first WIM, one of which has the same size as the 2nd wim. So basically the first WIM has contains both the same pro in addition to the home WIM in one container.
Glad it worked on yours, the windows.old concerns me, if in this img, you select save everything it says at top Upgrading, but if you select save nothing then at top it says Installing Win 10 which I took as clean install, but doing that and it creating windows.old, may mean you have to rename to iso ext and burn to disk for real clean install, who knows.
I wonder if they're integrating the search engine function directly into the default start menu does that mean search data will be personalized? I mean I'm almost curious to see what is done with the search engine meta data. Also most search engines get revenue from ads when will that come into play I wonder.
Tks @lobo for the details, but it's called "OEM image" because it was the image MS delivers to the OEM's for their processing, there's nothing OEM inside it, after the OEM's added their own stuffs(brand, cert, addware etc) then it's a real OEM image.
yep, no such thing as a genuine oem image without being covered in promotional trial versions of software slowing it to a crawl for the extra cash they're paid by norton and cyberlink and so on for the trial bundles.
OK played with both the ESD image and the img image. That's with NO tester mode what so ever, pure clean installs. I hate to say it, BUT its "horses for courses". If you want to believe the img image is better, well I wont ague with you. If you thing its not RTM, so be it. If you think the ESD image is the best good for you!!!!! To me "GET OVER IT" They are the ALL THE BASIC BUILDS AND DO THE JOB> On a personal note, I would close the thread, as there is nothing new here, just more useless reading 99% of the time.
