Went ahead and downloaded X20-08980.img and checked the MD5 everything matches up. Not sure if I should wait til its out officially on July 29th or update now..Im assuming this is the final RTM version and nothing else will be coming out by the 29th(On my laptop at least) my PC is a Dell, came with windows 8.1, am going to wait til it officially comes out to upgrade that..but not sure what to do with the laptop, did the phone activation trick on that, also has windows 8.1(I assume its the home version since it says windows 8.1 on the top doesnt say Pro) but I want to do a clean install so not sure how to go about that..I have Roxio Creator NXT Pro 3 so I could burn the img to disc and install it but want to make sure its done correctly
It is your call. the Img file is the OEM release for them to install on their PCs. It is the "final" bits for "RTM" there will still be updates. MS has already stated it was this version but RTM is a dead term. We are already reviving the day one patches at they come...and MS is making them cumulative Now for the thousandth time...you have to upgrade first then you can do a clean ISO install.
it doesnt matter if its cd or usb, i follow your guide before, i try to boot the iso in on my vmware with uefi option, but it wont boot. if its set to bios boot, it will boot successfully. main problem is, bios boot cant detect my gpt partitioned disk. any way to make it uefi bootable image ?
Don't worry about the bootable UEFI. I'll tell you what... You can boot with MBR (Legacy) and install... Then you can change it to UEFI with a couple of commands (I can tell you quick) I apologize it's just that I never have to worry about this stuff cause I always deploy the image via network or mount the ISO from inside windows and just upgrade from there Or like I said I don't bother What I'll usually do is stick all the ISO files in my pen date and use bootsect.exe /nt60 Then I start the install using Legacy boot and then change to UEFI with my commands
If your gonna install from the ISO you will need the KMS setup key... There floating around MDL somewhere...
Upgrade will remove Win 7. Booting from USB/ISO will allow dual-boot. ....wooooooot? Win 10 Setup doesn't require keys buddy.
I upgraded my Acer Switch 10 (Windows 8.1 with Bing - the WimBOOT had been replaced with a normal installation) with ISO, and it activated permanently upon completion of installation. (Local Account) [Note] A System with WimBOOT (or on VHD) is unable to be upgraded.
Wrong buddy If your mounting the image inside windows and upgrading it requires a key to continue If your booting off the media no key required Just thought I'd hint you in on that
I upgraded yesterday from 8.1 to Windows 10 mounting the ISO image inside windows and the installer didn't ask for any key.
