I recently moved to a TV without HDMI ARC and need to use the digital coax to output sound to my receiver instead of bitstream from my GPU. I can get stereo sound fine, but whenever I try and use 5.1 DTS Connect from my motherboard testing results in "Failed to play test tone" and no sound is output by my receiver. Looking online, MS knows about the issue, but has yet to fix it or offer any update on when it might be fixed other than it may be fixed in a future Insider Build. Has anyone found a workaround to get 5.1 sound through optical?
Are you saying that you output to a Stereo receiver, that is only one channel out, so how can you try 5.1, shouldn't you use the Stereo receiver settings to 5.1 ?. Missed the optical, you can't send one channel optical and have it 5.1, the receiver needs to have DTS and 5.1, which most have these day's. Optical is the best, if you have a good receiver, blows away any 5.1, 7.1 speakers that run off the board.
I understand, but optical is one channel. If you have a stereo that is DTS then use it, and use the TV as video only. Why would you even want to send DTS and 5.1 to a Stereo that already has DTS and 5.1 ????? Sorry if I'm missing something, but I don't get why you are trying to send a technology to a receiver that already has it.
Now you're confusing me, my receiver is capable of DTS 5.1, but using an optical cable from my motherboard I can only select stereo sound within Windows. Trying to use the DTS Connect 5.1 option in sound properties in Windows results in no sound.
Optical can pass multi channel and DD, but can it pass DTS, it depends on your hardware, because some can pass it and other can't.
That's my issue, all my hardware is capable, but Windows 10 currently has problems with both Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect. Was wanting to know if anyone had a workaround so I can get proper surround sound now that I can't send 5.1 PCM through my soundcard due to changing to a TV that doesn't have HDMI ARC. DTS Connect worked on Windows 8.1 with my setup for example, should have been more clear in my OP.
No problem, I get confused easy, I have 1150 and a Yamaha, let me see if I can. By the way, what is the realtek driver you have ?
I will have to check the specific version when I get home. It's the latest pushed when manually checking for updates through device manager.
I tried everything, and I have 7624 driver. I can pass DTS, DD test to receiver, but when I try to set DTS 5.1, I get the same problem as you, real sorry, I forgot to set it, I just did a test of installing win 7 to 10 then win 8 to 10 and then a enterprise, so now back on pro and forgot all about setting DTS. I also had speakers plugged in, and was getting "in use" error when setting DTS 5.1, but unplugged them from PC, and no error but sound won't pass with it set, only on 2 channel. This stinks. It's all your fault, I didn't know it wasn't working, LMAO P.S. If you have the ALC898, I found a modded realtek .dll that works for some, but it's not working on my 1150.
After trying every unlocked driver, every version the problem was windows 10, now the 10576 and 586 do NOT stop DTS out on optical on 1150 now. No more DTS surround test failure under advanced tab. And also able to set receiver to DTS. Using 7560 realtek, will try, 7614, 7649, soon.
