Cortana and Desktops Do you use TeamSpeak or Razer Comms? Or ANY voice application (including Skype or other voice-enabled messaging application)? Any of those (or all of them) are plenty of reason to leverage headsets and microphones for search. Also, there is the very real FACT that tablets and phones aren't the only devices with built-in cameras and microphones - notebooks and LAPTOPS have had both since (no fainting) XP and the first true non-luggable laptops. Cortana is natural-language-driven vocal-input search (like Google Now and Siri); it does NOT speak "techie". However, you CAN type into Cortana, hence it can learn it as typed input. (Something that neither Google Now or Siri is capable of.) Sticking to what you are comfortable with is fine - however, not being comfortable with an application is no reason to disparage it. (On desktop and both notebooks, I type into Cortana to search; vocal input is disabled. It works fine that way. Personal preference - NOT lack of capability.)
I use to type to search. I'm not talking about the imput method used to search, but about the results. As for now, if I type in the start menu search fields, it searches in all programs, then my files. Results are almost instantly. But in the new windows 10 search start menu field, results are way different, some of then being almost useless. As I said, in previous windows versions if i type "task" it show task manager and task scheduler in results. In windows 10, with cortana and search index disabled, using a local account (not microsoft account), a search for "task", "calc", "terminal" find nothing. I'm not talking about search internet, I'm not that lazy nor disabled that I can't type to search.
looks like the search from cortana is still available in this version is searchui still running? it's a big waste of resources and if you're not happy with the search function just switch to classic shell it works just like the search box in win7 start menu and without search indexer service and you can get rid of the cortana searchui has anybody tried if you can disable the xaml start menu in this version?
Hey, PGHammer, why so offensive? I am not complaining, iput a topic for discussion. For a desktop, the metro ui is, in my opinion, and lots of others as i read, bloatware, yes… Just read the thread, how many fello forum members are trying to disable as many as possible "features" of this windows 10... That a 64bits windows 10 version with metro ui uses +-400mb more ram by default and proccessor is constantly busy is a fact, test it by yourself and you see... Personally i like progress, my devices are always up todate, but apps, i use a couple of hundrend of them on my smartphone and tablet… On my desktop i do the “heavy” work. And modern apps cannot replace my desktop (yet). And, if you like, i do not thing that sometime that will happen… On desktop i like minimmalistic interface, like many others as i read, so that i have enough place and resources for all the programms i use. And the whole point of this thread is that this particular LTSB edition offers the most simpel and therefore, i say, stable interface. 'Pure desktop’ feeling like author of this thread called it, and i, simply agreed. Everybody is free not to agree… I just said my personal opinion.
lol it seems that i removed my post. I'm on mobile, so i'm not really sure what happened. The search function on this version of Windows 10 is actually not cortana, its just using the same ui. The Taskbar, Jumplist, A-C & the Start Menu is running as one XAML process.
It is unacceptable that Microsoft removed the ability to select updates. It is even more ridiculous that they created an unnecessarily complex method of hiding them in order to appease the people they never should have stepped on. The entire OS seems like it was based on the idea of limiting the user.
Thank's dummekuehe, I'm fool thinking that the new menu could be as good as old windows 7 menu or replacements like classic shell, startisback, start10. I must admit that new menu is pleased to eyes, but it's a shame it lacks functionality.
Actually I like the new start menu. You can unpin the default metro apps tiles and then hold & drag the menu to the left to make it more like the old start. Also, I customized it to only show "most used apps" on top.
Liked it too, but the lack of integrated search like in the old versions ins a big step backward. Live tiles in start menu are interesting for those who use it, like the new weather app.
Sorry for the ultra noob question guys but what would be the correct path/procedure to activate this build? which sounds awesome btw.
en_windows_10_enterprise_n_x64_dvd_6852541.iso Is the above ISO with more fixes vs. en_windows_10_enterprise_2015_ltsb_n_x64_dvd_6848316.iso ?
There's a setting somewhere to have it search the web as well as system. Are you guys sure that isn't what it is?
