LOL people with a ridiculous large hosts file should consider blocking all traffic by default and whitelisting only the stuff they access. I mean, if you block 400 MB worth of domains, there's not much left of value to browse (IMO). But I still think it was a mistake and he/she meant 400 KB.
That's not possible (or at least not feasible). If you blacklisted the whole Internet and only whitelisted what you used, you would never stumble upon anything new. You would have to whitelist every time you did a Google search. It is a lot more easier (and feasible) to blacklist sites you know are bad or that others have discovered are bad. That is why people maintain host file list.
my hosts file does "not work" anymore... since a few days, win10 seems to ignore all my entries in the hosts file. anyone with the same problem ? edit: deleted the old hosts file, created a new one, it works again. (but I did not change it in the last past month)
