You can, I also did it. It was discussed in this topic, basically we are testing their cumulative update some time before it's released to stable branch Your OS will not become insider/preview version, but the update may change a bit when it's released for all. Regards.
... it is listed (under IP .351), unfortunately KB number was omitted from first column, .. corrected.
.... I may be mistaken, but was not the previous SS (KB3199209) also unpublished.., yet apparently recognised by WU ?
I see i thought it was published nonetheless, this could related to update metadata i.e. in catalog, KB3199209 lists KB3176936 as superseded KB3199986 don't have any replacement data yet
kb3199986 (latest sstack doesn't supersede KB3176936). When integrated in install.wim, WU will offer KB3176936. KB3197954 (IP CU) Or: KB3199209 (older sstack but supersedes KB3176936) KB3197954 (IP CU) It's MSFT being mystical
I'm a bit confused by this. The file details list 14393.0 for most of the KB3199209 stack, but some files are .349 Then in the older KB3176936 all of the files seem to be 14393.82 So reasonably, if you wanted to have the latest files, you'd want to install both. Perhaps someone like abbodi1406 can illuminate us as to what's going on here.
CBS deals with sxs components, not individual files and higher components version takes precedence, all its files are active installing both updates won't make lower components version files in KB3176936 active
It makes sense. I mean, technically the older .82 files may just be re-compiled and not actually have anything updated. It doesn't make sense that they'd go backwards.
Yes it supersedes it. But 3176936 is offered again by WU. As @Enthousiast already said M$ is being mystical
Please read carefully: kb3176936 is only offered by WU when kb3199986 is installed without kb3199209 installed. PS, i only tested what abbodi1406 asked to test. I let abbodi1406 and murphy78 do the conclusions as they know more about the matter.
@Enthousiast Currently working on Windows 10 1607 RS1 Build 14393 Are these only needed for servicing boot.wim?: -Latest InstallMedia Update: KB3192762 [SetupUpdate for ISO:\Sources] -SS KB3199209
