I tried to install 19042.538 over 19042.508 and I got that "you cannot even keep your data" warning. That was with an ISO built from UUP, going to try a few more things. I have had success in the past building a WIM file that is the base image + SSU + currently installed CU (no cleanup) and then running : Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /Source:WIM:C:\Install.wim:1 /limitaccess After that a problematic new CU is more likely to install.
Why would you do that by ISO / inplace upgrade? Found: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/windows-10-hotfix-repository.57050/page-528#post-1618444 Inplace upgrade is not fixed/enabled by MSFT on 19042.xxx. Uninstall the 20H2 EP (if available) and next you can do an inplace upgrade with keeping files and apps.
Uhhh, just like 1909 it gets confused, I remember that. What a PITA. I wish they would fix that so a system with enablement and a WIM with integrated enablement could be compatible.
I get that but it this feels like an intentionally fabricated incompatibility. BTW, 1/3 at the moment. There does not seem to be a good reason why one of my systems took the upgrade while 2 did not. 3 more to go, will be interesting to see if any of those work.
This CU has no consistency at all. I am 2/5 now and there does not seem to be anything consistent with the systems where it worked and the ones where it didn't. My most thoroughly tampered with system that has pretty much everything removed aside from defender installed the CU without issue. This same system also had DISM++ run a cleanup and I also ran a batch file that resets WU deleting all past updates in the process. A temperamental CU should fail on this system 100% of the time but it didn't in this case.
Not being pushed out at all right now on Windows Update. I'd wait. We will probably see something this week.
It integrates it in the winpe images only, so it's a winpe only update at the least. And it's insider so it can be all it wants.

You really waste a lot of time by updating all separate skus, just update home and create all others from it, will save you a lot of time.
