For people with metered broadband connections and with better things to download, is there any point in applying these weekly updates. I see no point in applying weekly updates even if I do download them. I think the cumulative updates for win 10 1511 started at 150-170 MB and now have swollen to 470-480 MB. Since we do not get a KB as to what has changed, all the supposed improvements are invisible or negligible. Still no fix for 3 types of right click context menu, not seeing all items on right click, and overall context menu gray shading looking like a retro from XP.
it is sad that this matter is still not understood correctly. windows update does not download whole cumulative update each time. it just downloads an express update which is very small compared with the full update. so, if you have a metered or low speed connection, let the windows update client update itself.
Most of us do know that it is an incremental update and online file is not 470 MB. So it is not sad. The points are: 1. Then why should we bother to download the full file and why the fine people here do us a great service to put up links first anywhere. 2. Second, in 10 there is no info as to what is the size of the download or what is contains. It is all or nothing. 3. If I knew beforehand what is the size of express update, that would help in making a decision as to whether to download the full installer or just let WU.
Well, the full file is useful for whom install a fresh os, or service multiple images (i.e. AIO builders) the regular user should get use of WU express download mechanism
For win 10 at least (RTM and 1511), I get updates first here and for that, I am thankful. I download all the updates but apply the latest only if I feel like it, most likely during monthly patch day. Win 10 is good that there is only cumulative update + perhaps 2-3 including Malicious software, flash, etc. So helps a lot in fresh install. I have a metered connection with download limit of 525 GB per month, with speed of 16 mbps. So downloading weekly does not matter. Installing weekly is another matter.
Hello, Today I wanted to update my Windows 10 laptop. I installed KB3136562 and rebooted when asked. Then I see MSU still shows KB3124262. I decided to let MSU install it. It did, and also asked me to reboot. Any idea?
That update isn't pushed to WU and WU doesn't recognize it's superseding the former CU so WU will also download/install the former one to be satisfied.
Is there a recent list of updates needed to satisfy WU? (based on the 1511 iso) Sh#&! I am departing for holidays before the patch Tue, where I'll be on a very limited connection. Anyway, I won't download the earlier CU... kb-3136562 seems fishy...
I guess the KB3136562 is superseded by KB3135173 (while the "number" of the KB is "lower") While Flash Player is "OK" (KB3133431 is superseded by KB3135782)
