I'm not sure how many people have read the fine print on this offer but it sounds like it won't work on VL and even if you figure out a way around it they can come back at anytime and kill your PC once they have figured out what you did..haha.

"Windows 10 Upgrade Offer is valid for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, including devices you already own. Some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may

vary by device and market. The availability of Windows 10 upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1 devices may vary by OEM, mobile operator or carrier. Devices must be connected to the internet and have

    Windows Update enabled.
Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software

Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer.
To check for compatibility and other important installation

information, visit your device manufacturer’s website and the Windows 10 Specifications page. Additional requirements may apply over time for updates. Security and features are kept

automatically up-to-date which is always enabled."

With all past versions of Windows, somebody was smart enough to get around Microsoft's activation requirements. I would expect that it will be no different with this version. If Microsoft Toolkit doesn't activate it, somebody will figure a way of getting Windows activated. Have a little faith.

I bought an HP computer that came with Windows 7 preinstalled, but then I installed a pirated Windows 8 onto it. If I want to get a legit free Windows 10 upgrade, I suppose I should go back to the preinstalled Windows 7, but I don't have any recovery disks or anything. Is there any way to go back to my legit Windows 7?

    Check this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\ACPI\RSDT

Install a certificate that matches the OEMID from that and a SLP key that matches the installed edition.

... actually, just recalled, Windows Loader does all that for you.

I guess I missed that part. I suppose he could use a SLP to get back to vanilla OEM then or depending on the brand he can probably just download the original oem iso.

Not sure where I am going wrong with this.

Laptop came preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium from HP.

I put Win 7 Ultimate on it and activated via known HP HPQOEM_V2.1_Cert.xrm-ms and Ultimate key.

However even with all the updates the GWX is not displaying anything.

    Reinstalling didn't help.

Anyone got an idea on what is going wrong here?

its not going to show if it doesnt like something. it does a compatibility test before showing.

but after july 29th. microsoft will fully turn on the program and it should show on all pc.

I tried alot of things trying to get it to show.

Mine would not start at first.

What i did was navigated to C:\Windows\System32\GWX and clicked all the .exe applications and the icon appeared next to clock.
