I was trying to do that as you mentioned it but even the Loader likes my cert. Manually trying to start GWX didn't work for me either. I tried to reinstall the KB to no effect. Something is not right here ... Edit: Could it be that the Language of the Windows copy is not English but German?
It takes time, the Laptop in our household has the german home sku of w8 and when i started it up it already had the notification in the taskbar while my Desktop which was running for longer still didn't have it but it appeared a few hours later. All you have to do is wait, it makes no difference... it may say "reserve" but it's just a compatbility checker and signing you up to the upgrade path, there are still 2 months to go.
Thanks for the feedback! I will let it run but unfortunately the flag icon doesn't even appear for me at the moment. Maybe it will be triggered whilst "idle" like you mentioned.
My laptop had the flag appear straight away, my PC that I have on my domain refused until I left the domain, my other PC just flat refused for 24 hours no matter what I did and then suddenly it appeared, guess patience is a virtue
Wait a day or two, most of mine showed up yesterday but two of them not until today. You will get it but that doesn't mean you or I or anybody will necessarily get the code.
Even Daz himself said that this may not work. You may get the upgrade but after you install you probably will not be activated.
By the way, for anybody who still hasn't gotten the invitation flag run windows update again today. There was a totally unrelated update for the Defender database and when I ran that this morning the flag appeared on the two installations from yesterday that I couldn't get it on no matter what I tried. It might just be that WU keys it even if it isn't the same update that installed it. My update for the invitation went in two weeks ago.
Thanks! I'm testing on 8.1ProWMC (Free key, status activated). I'm seeing a lot of these: "Error message: GWX CompatLib: Failed to retrieve CEIP markers." What could that mean?
Same issue as Atari800XL: Error message: GWX CompatLib: Failed to retrieve CEIP markers. So there must be some kind of issue with the tool or Windows. .. Edit: More info So the events go like this: Code: GWX CompatLib: Failed to retrieve CEIP markers. ErrorCode -2147024894 Appraiser pre-req failed GWX App: Current calculated phase 'None' is not configured to run tray app. Exiting. GWX Main: Launched by task GWX Main: Launched for tray startup GWX CompatLib: Failed to retrieve CEIP markers. ErrorCode -2147024894
Has anyone thought about the possibility that the Win 10 upgrade will ask for a Win 7/8 COA key? If you had Genuine Windows 7 from an OEM, they have a key sticker even though they used SLIC2.1 activation. This could be an issue for those who used BIOS mod and OEM Key/Cert to activate. They appear Genuine to MS, but if they ask for a key, forget about it. I have several machines in that status. Most of them are HTPCs, so at this point, I won't be upgrading them due to the lack of WMC. I do have a couple older laptops and one desktop that I might like to upgrade though. Of course, this is assuming their hardware would be supported (Core 2 Duo age laptops).
