finally someone say something fair. Yes, 10 its "better" than Millennium. But, remember, to be fair, 98 was BY FAR better than Millennium. This is an endless loop
I Personally don't have any problems with Windows 10, its the programs and drivers on it keep giving me memory read errors when I shut down and WIFI card failing.
Ever heard of WDDM 2.0...? That's what you get in Windows-10 specific GPU drivers... (They won't run at all in Windows 8/7--you'll see a reversion to WDDM 1.3 should you try and install them.) Quite a bit of Win10-specific stuff for drivers to support, actually. nVidia recently jumped into some hot water by first announcing that Maxwell was 100% D3d12-compliant in hardware when it turns out Maxwell doesn't even support async compute in hardware at all--one of the major new features of D3d12. Anyway, besides GPU drivers, some other drivers are the same/similar, some not. Depends on the device/function. Wild incompatibility we don't ever want, imo, as it isn't good for backwards software compatibility. No stability problems here, either, with 10. I can't help thinking the people having trouble with 10 are people running custom OEM laptops who are trying to get them to do the free upgrades to Win10 even though the originating laptop OEM has no intention of supplying Win10 drivers for them... (Will be happy to sell you a new Win10 laptop, however!) With some laptops that's the way it works.
Have to agree, I have an old (5 year old) HP laptop and although I get the free upgrade I have to use the old drivers that came with the laptop and there are no newer drivers that work with it Although there is one and it gives me hell, its the touch pad that keeps upgrading to the new and then doesn't work. I've tried everything to stop the upgrade (there is a thread in here on it) but it just over writes it silently after a reboot. So as said, I think its the hardware rather than software on my machine.
No doubt! Windows 10 is better but Microsoft is giving FREE upgrade for one year just to exploit the users as beta tester in making it PERFECT. Once perfect the newer upgrade version/build will be a paid upgrade. Simple!
My own EULA says that í'm not allowed to pay for software when it has been made/signed by the devil. Using it however is a whole different story, but beyond the scope of this thread =P
Windows 10 is great apart from the spyware issue. 98 [not 98SE] Millennium and Vista were abysmal [I actually paid for the crap]. Windows XP and 7 were fine. Windows 8 was a phone/tablet OS but ran very well with a little modification. Much as I hate Microsoft for ripping me off with some of their earlier releases things continue to improve, I am so impressed I may even start paying for them again
This is my biggest complaint when it comes to the "modern" parts of the OS. I actually sent a feedback saying people would start comparing Windows 10 with Windows ME if Microsoft didn't improve stability of modern apps, start menu, settings app, etc, and here it is.
We didn't know it at the time, but Windows ME was actually Windows Meh. I have used pretty much every Microsoft operating system since MS-DOS 2.11 starting in 1983, at work and at home. There are 8 computers running in our house (4 desktops and 4 laptops, mostly Dell) used by 4 people. I have upgraded all of them from Windows 7 & 8.1 to Windows 10 x64. Some are Pro and some are Home versions. Some of the Dell computers are from 2009 and some are only 6 months old. All are working great. No lockups, BSOD, etc. What I did do to insure the least problems, I did a clean install of Windows 7 or 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10. I have since done some Windows 10 clean installs and all activated right away. Overall for our family use, Windows 10 is working great.
Vista only came good as Windows 7 appeared on the scene, the final release of Vista had Windows 7 under the hood. Vista like XP is now history unfortunately
love the topic. I just cant even get to the fact of using 10. even with a hardware act already i just cant see my self giving M$ any control. I'm sticking to 7 and thats it
