I still wonder if on 29 we will get a new build.

// Strange situation on Windows 8.1 laptop: activated with KMS Pico or Office toolkit and has Get Windows 10 app. When it will be upgraded to Windows 10 will be still activated ?

Ok, I have now upgraded and it is activated. I should now be able to format C: and activate with no key, correct?

    1. Upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro (activated by phone) > Windows 10 Pro activated
    2. backup Windows 10 cd key and token.dat
    3. fresh install Windows 10 Pro. Can't activate Windows 10 with cd key and token.dat > try online activate > Error code: 0xC004C003 > Key blocked :weep:

I upgraded an HP Stream 7 tablet from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home. However it will not activate. It simply says there is an error. Has anyone else had this happen? From the sounds of it the activation after an upgrade is very easy and simple to do.

If I install this using Windows 8.1, will my key work to do a fresh install later?

on fresh install you don't need input any key, simply leave the generic one.

Token.dat don't need to be replaced

I hope this hasn't been asked before (I could not find anything by reading or searching)....I'm running multiple machines in my house....installed all the necessary MS Updates on all my machines...so far I have received the notification for the upgrade on only the first machine...all the rest are not coming up with it...is this upgrade IP dependent ? In other words...am I screwed now on the other machines ? If so, will setting up a proxy on the other machines do the trick....sorry for all the questions...I thought I would get it out of the way in one fell swoop...LOL....thanks for any help.

No, here I have same setup with some machines and all received the notification icon in taskbar. Problem must be somewhere else

You can update manually just by running Windows 10 setup file.

I am really confused after reading this thread.

    1) Is this the official version that has been leaked? People a few pages ago in the thread were saying it is not?
    2) Assuming it is the official version, just install it via Windows Upgrade and activate it?
    3) What version should I be downloading? Right now, I am downloading "MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.10.PRO-CORE.RTM.10240.X64.OEMRET.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT" Is this the right version I want? I have Windows 8.1 Pro.
    4) What is this I hear about saving the token? If I have a legit version of Windows 8.1, shouldn't when I install Windows 10 and gets activated, I should be able to do a clean install without backing up anything?

    Thanks!

Fresh-installed this into a VMWare Workstation 11 VM (skipped all prompts to enter a key) and was surprised to find that Windows was already activated. slmgr /dlv says Retail Channel. Wut??

Free Upgrade Licenses are all Retail. BUT: In opposite to bought licenses those are hardware-bound.

    Thank you!
I re-install again, enter key and online activate work. Now, my Windows 10 activated
But I have a question: How to backup and restore activation file for offline activate ?:worthy:

So, speaking strictly from a technical perspective, one could fresh-install Windows onto *any* computer (including brand-new machines with no previous Windows installation) and not have to worry about activation at all?
