    8.1 license data location is
    C:\Windows\System32\spp\store\2.0\data.dat
    Rename it data.dat.old
    All you need is an activated data.dat for Windows 8.1
    Replace it with the activated data.dat
    Try it on 8.1

    Try it on 10 to see if it is the same.
    Let me know if it could be copied to the 10 folder and it works.

    Unfortunately that test won't prove anything. The Preview still uses the old activation protocols, whereas the RTM will most likely introduce a new one (same applied for Win 8 and 8.1 Previews).

    Win 8.1 activation is very picky regarding backups. Even within the same system it needs identic hardware and programs installation status to make them work.

    Stopped myself messing with this, as my Win 8 keys are still valid and after activating on changed hardware via phone once, they now work online on that hardware.

    Better do not. It's not allowed here.
