Guys my search bar crashes when I try to access its options section by pressing the cog wheel. I have noticed that it's basically a metro app that gets suspended, do you know any way to reinstall it?
The Start XML is still not working properly, you can export and import but it doesn't change to the layout you give it.
It doesn't work. It seems they still plan to have it working but it just doesn't right now, the commands were broken for many builds. Now both commands "work" but Import-StartLayout and gpedit have no effect on your Startmenu, the only thing gpedit does it lock it.. but not change the layout. It's probably going to work in a future update but right now it doesn't, not for me.
**** the new UI, it is really a pain to use. Its not reliable and slow. Besides, the new search won't even find simple application shortcuts, if you turn off the "Windows Search" service. Here are some recommendations of mine: Hiding the new start menu Use ClassicShell. The current version is 4.2.2 and it supports Windows 10. Reverting to the old tray applets Battery applet - found this one myself Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell] "UseWin32BatteryFlyout"=dword:00000001 Network applet - the one from Windows 8, but still faster than the original Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Settings\Network] "ReplaceVan"=dword:00000002 Volume applet Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\MTCUVC] "EnableMtcUvc"=dword:00000000 Clock applet Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell] "UseWin32TrayClockExperience"=dword:00000001 Disable UAC Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System] "EnableLUA"=dword:00000000 This denies access to the new apps, though. The only useful app for me is the calculator, let's replace it in the last step. Removing the apps Use the known methods for uninstalling the user apps. To remove the system apps, take ownership of the subfolders in C:\Windows\SystemApps, back them up and delete the following ones: - ContactSupport - Edge - CloudExperienceHost - ContentDeliveryManager - Cortana - Xbox stuff - ParentalControls (if you are of age : ) - WindowsFeedback You might need to end some running processes to successfully delete the folders. Sadly we can't get rid of ShellExperienceHost, because it will disable the right click function of the task bar. I didn't try to remove the others yet, they sound kinda important. Old calculator winaero.com provides an installer containing the old calculator. Sadly I can't provide any link due to my post count.
In taskbar, How to hide labels when "never combine button" is selected ? Have a solution with windows 7 and 8 but don't work with 10 View attachment 37374
I have it set like this and they don't combine. There are no labels. It this what you are looking for?
Thanks for the registry hacks, seriously it was really completely broken for me too but it's better now after doing a recovery->reset, In Place upgrade wasn't a good idea after all.
