Windows 10, Version 1511 (Updated Feb 2016), now live on MSDN & VLSC

What is newer, this Windows 10 Version 1511 or the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14279 ?

 

There are two downloads available for these Editions:

1. Windows 10 (Released Jul 2015)
2. Windows 10, Version 1511 (Updated Feb 2016)

 

The 10586 (aka 1511) or Feb 2016 are the current branche, 14279 is an Insider Preview, the last one is newer, the first one (should be) more stable

 

1511 is from the th2 Branch. 14279 is from rs1 Branch, also known as Redstone. 1511 is a released Product. 14279 is Beta and WILL EXPIRE. Redstone is due to be released to the Public in June/July this Summer.

 

This is inside the update.mum:

It suggests it always was meant also for integrating in install.wim indexes (at least for running systems)? Boot.wim/winre.wim don't "restart".

EDIT: MS renamed the indexes, it doesn't show: "Technical Preview" anymore

 

I don't know the ins and outs of update stuff. I don't think that's accurate. I'm pretty sure all boot/winre stuff is pending and you can install restartable updates.

 

It integrates just fine in the old 10586 indexes (just tested it).

the few updates can be download manually so we dont need to reinstall?

Yep

for os image (install.wim), it only update System Reset component

however, that component is already superseded with newer version in the same included cumulative kb3135173

 

So, both updates who make this new iso NEW were already superseeded at march 1.?

 

I think yes buddy, I integrated KB3139907 and KB3140743 into clean 10.0.10586.0 and from a clean install I get 10.0.10586.122 . WU just downloads some defender stuff.
