I can set my wallpaper and my lock screen, but I can't figure to how to change logon screen, the default Saturn's rings, to something else. Any ideas? Thanks!
Been there, done that. It allows setting the lock screen, user picture, and optional sign in picture, but not the startup screen. Have you been able to change that?
If I understood correctly what you want to change, then just do the following: go to the Start Screen and press WinKey+C --> click "Settings" in the Charm Bar --> choose "Personalize" and select desired background --> enjoy
No, that is different. That sets the desktop wallpaper for the logged on user, and I don't mean the user "Lock" screen. The one I want to change is the one that appears when the user logs off (signs out).
Understood! Sadly, there is no built in feature to change that picture. But there is another way. 1. First of all, go to Code: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Take ownership and give full access rights to yourself AND SYSTEM to folder "SystemData" and its subfolders. 2. Go to Code: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\ReadOnly\LockScreen_Z Delete an cached image you'll find there. 3. Now go to Code: C:\Windows\Web\Screen The image named "img100.jpg" is the one displayed on the log in/log out screen. DO NOT delete it, only rename it. For example to "img1001.jpg" or something similar. You may need to take ownership of this file first. 4. Now copy the image you want to use and name it "img100.jpg". For best experience use picture which is 1920x1080 of size. 5. Reboot & enjoy.
So close...I am unable to gain access to the SystemData folder. I am unable to take ownership or change permissions. I am familiar with these techniques in Windows 7, so I am not a total stranger. I even tried accessing the folder while booted into Windows 7 on the same computer, without success. Have you actually done this? Could you walk me through the process?
You could all time boot your computer from and Windows PE, and Mini XP, Winternal or an Linux Life CD for to access the System HDD with the Windows in question. That would give you the power for to edit, access, change or what ever you want to do with the files you could get access to in Windows.
Great Minds Think Alike. I installed the picture using a Windows PE bootable flash drive, rebooted Windows 10, and the new image was there. Thanks to you and Super User.
I'm glad you've found a solution. If you want to take ownership without booting with Windows PE or other tools, just right click on folder/file --> Properties --> Security --> Advanced --> Change --> then enter your name --> hit "Check names" --> OK --> OK ...
Okay, I got it right this time. Just a matter of figuring out the presentation, which is a little different from Win 7. Thank you for your patience and help.
As I wrote it works but for all files. Sometimes the use of 3.party apps could save a lot of time and effort! And that's the reason that I automatically isntall some special Tool Apps for such working.
UPDATE ON THEMES/WALLPAPERS: Its highly likely that 9841 themes will not work with 9860, the code changes things and it will affect 3rd party theme installers, wallpapers should work though, just make sure you don't have a 3rd party theme installed
The wallpaper and lock screen images will stick, but the startup screen reverts to the original colored rings image. I had to redo the procedure described earlier in this thread starting at about post #105.
