Could you 1. use disk management to compress C: (about 30 GB) 2. create a NTFS primary partition 3. add a drive letter for it. e.g. G: 4. install clean Windows 10 Pro on the new partition
Not sure, last time I tried to compress the C: drive it wouldn't boot period because of some error with it couldn't find boot information because some important boot info was compressed.
I have not finished my instruction yet. Would you like to have a dual-boot to test if your hardware is good for Windows 10 before upgrading Windows 7?
Thanks Rew. Lets hope that Xin can get it working. But after looking at your BIOS and missing all of the security settings to disable them for CPU, I don't see it working, and I can bet there's no way you'll get ECS to give you a updated BIOS for win 8.1. Sorry I can't help farther, but I do hope you get it working.
Yeah the last BIOS update from them was from 5 years ago and they haven't even answered my last email. They seem like idiots and want to sell you a new board.
I would be willing to give it a try. Although if possible it would be easier to put the dual boat for Windows 10 on the "D" drive as it would compress easier.
Could you now create a new NTFS partition on C: about 30 GB, and add a Drive letter for it? (I do not have Windows 7 in place, so I can only give instruction step by step by memory.) OK. Please wait for me to prepare VMware.
I'm a dingbat lmao....wrong drive, give me a little longer...thought I'd clicked on "C" drive it was one of my other drives sheesh..need more coffee
22 GB is OK. Add a new primary partition for it and format as NTFS, then add a new Drive letter. Tell me the new Drive letter. (But 22 GB is really small on a Drive with 346 GB free space.)
Says you cannot shrink a volume beyond the point where any unmovable files are located. says something about seeing defrag event when operation is complete....should I go ahead with the shrink?
You said that C drive has 346 GB free space. How come? May be this is the problem that keep Windows 7 from upgrading. Could you move files on D Drive to C Drive or USB, and install Windows 10 Pro on D Drive?
I can try an offline, defrag and see if it clears that message up....I'd have to unmount the drive to do it (I think) or if possible use another drive for the dual boot? is that a possiblitiy?
