Didn't you know? Windows 10 sucks.. Definitely not what we were promised and first shown.

Same happened for Win 8 if you remember, there will be 'fixes' as always.

This a particulary true for AMD and Synaptics drivers.

This does not prove that all updates are beneficial in all circumstances. It only proves that you have been lucky, which is great.

I quit smoking last year, but I have smoked cigarettes for more than 30 years and never had a serious disease. This does not proves that tobacco is harmless. It only proves that I've been lucky in one way or another.

Now about the updates. I have always installed MOST of the updates. I have always installed all the security updates without even thinking. But I have rejected some "recommended" and/or "optional" updates in the past. And I don't want, from now on, ALL the updates being "forced down my throat", like Daz said.

Let's put this way: it would be the end of the "recommended" and the "optional" updates for home and pro users.

Last but not least, the idea of forcing security updates seems good at first sight. But then we should trust that MS would never mess with the meaning or definition of "security updates".

Wait till the first broken update is forced on millions of machines and they're put out of commission....

OK, I understand there are 2 different versions of Enterprise. The regular 'Windows 10 Enterprise' and the 'Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB'. They have different activation keys. Is it the same ISO/ESD with just different keys that will activate the different update options or are they separate downloads? The non-LTSB has option to defer feature updates up to 8 months, the LTSB has option for 10 years. I have the regular enterprise (yet to install). So just wondering if I can use the LTSB key on it. Thanks.

That's a band-aid . I'd like to see updates offered and choose as I always have. :tasty:

I have my Win10 10240 set as "Disable" Configure Automatic Updates in gpedit.msc and it hasn't updated anything yet. It seems that WU is disabled to me.

Edit: I've also Disabled Windows Update Service in Services just in case.

This is the reason I DL'd the enterprise version. But even that is not without restrictions of some sort. Greater configurability with LTSB version of enterprise than regular one.

So very true. Components of the AMD driver sometimes fail to install in effect blocking all future updates since WU just keeps trying to install the magic AMD driver.

Synaptics drivers are a joke as 2 finger scrolling wont work on any XAML based apps.. i.e. pretty much the whole OS.

It's strange, i did the same and downloaded updates. Can you check the content of this folder: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

Is where the updates gets downloaded, if it's empty means no downloads, if there are few files...than it means some updates downloaded!

Personally, I hate mega-threads with a white hot passion. Who int their right mind wants to wade thru hundreds of pages just to hope that the particular topic they are interested in is covered therein.
