I understand not wanting to download things when you don't know what they are, but ask yourself: Do you trust MS with updates? If not, why not? The truth is that I can count on a single hand how many updates had bad enough problems that they had to be recalled. That's a damn good track record. While I'm an advocate of being able to decide when you feel like updating, rather than having them do it while you're in the middle of things, I also recognize that you can't separate updates that easily and keep everything updated. Think about what is being asked of MS. They're being asked to update features, security fixes, and publish said fixes. When you separate the features and security updates, it makes about 4x the work because they have to: 1-create security-only fixes 2-separate security and feature teams so that any fixes do not cause problems for the other 3-test both security and feature changes 4-publish both changes I could go on forever. It's just too much work for them to separate the different kinds of updates and keep everyone current.
I saw this and had to laugh. I see Murphy78s' posts as the typical rantings of the optimist. Always looking on the bright side. Always level headed. Dammit man! When will you learn that the only way to look at life is through the puke colored glasses of the paranoid! @Murphy78: If you do work for Microsoft, thanks for your injection of truth and sensibility into these posts. To Me, Having the builders comment would only be a plus for everyone here. @pirithous: If you hate Microsoft products so much, then why are you here? :MJ
Where did I say that I hated Microsoft products? This is exactly what I was talking about above; it's obvious who Windows products were designed for (the lowest common denominator). Your post just took a nosedive into a whole new level of dumbness.
I never called anybody dumb -- stop putting words in others' mouths. The reading comprehension on this forum is lower than average, unfortunately. There is an abundance of technically useful information on MDL being squashed by people posting complete nonesense. You're lucky to find something useful in the hundreds of pages of garbage here.
I solved this problem on Pro by forcing updates through a WSUS server. Working great so far and I can filter all updates including devices and can even block the pc from communicating with the app store, all of this via gpo. If Enterprise has the same ability to allow or hide updates and doesn't force anything, then I will later go that route but for now this method is working great.
Could you explain how, or send a PM? I would love to know how you can control updates in Windows 10. I hate that 'auto-install everything' strategy.
Have any of you found a way to disable all driver updates via Windows Update? The drivers tank my install and I am forced to re-install the OS. I must find some way other than what I am already doing now (Disabling Windows Update Service) so I can at the very least get normal system updates. Thanks Guys!
