I also did the menu tweak and left it there and have no problem with the right click menu not appearing, it always works. Must be something else why it doesn't work for everyone. What I don't like is the bigger spacing between files and directories when I open Explorer. I hope someone will find a tweak to reduce it to how it was before.
Well, seems like the update removed the reg fix completely, just noticed. I'll re-apply and see what madness to expect from trying the same thing over again.
What exact reg tweak are you referring to here? There are (were) 2 that achieved the classic context menu even if one was entirely undesirable in most other ways.
Guys, when I installed Windows 11, I am pretty sure the taskbar turned fully transparent. I loved how it looks, but after a reboot, it turned translucent. I am not sure what happened. Is there a way to reenable it? I don't want to use 3rd party tool.
The transparent taskbar is apparently a bug, seen many posts reporting it on Reddit, and oddly enough most seem to want it as a feature.
You can hit WinKey + R and type "control folders" into the run field to get the File Explorer Options dialog, then click View tab and check Decrease space between items (compact view)
Nice one, thank you. Hadn't seen that in folder options. Update: Registry value to enable/disable Explorer compact view. Enable Explorer compact view. Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "UseCompactMode"=dword:00000001 Disable Explorer compact view. Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "UseCompactMode"=dword:00000000
This one, obsolete now ofc. The first "right click" on the desktop, the one that works before disappearing, has the new UI but the old layout, which probably would be the optimal solution.
Anyone happen to know where the registry stores whether you are using dark mode? It keeps turning it off "for apps" at random for me.
Can you explain what you mean by this? Are you saying the reg tweak achieved old layout but on new context menu style? Or just that this would be the optimal solution?
the new os seems like a downgrade compared to 10 not sure what ms is smoking. hoping these insider builds are just incomplete ui feature wise.
