    DISABLE DRIVE INDEXING
    I do not do much:
    1. Disable drive indexing
    How to disable:
Open up C: or Computer in the Start menu
Un-check the box marked "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties".
A pop-up screen may appear, stating there is an error applying attributes. This is normal. You should select "Ignore All" and continue.

    2. Disable Drive defrag (should be by default in win 7, 8,8.1)
    3. Disable Hibernation
right-click the cmd program and select Run as Administrator
in the command line, type "powercfg -h off", again without the quotes
Once completed, the command prompt returns.

    4. Power Settings
    Go to Control Panel; Select Power Options, click and select high performance, change Plan Settings for High performance;
Then Click the hard disk drop down option; Change Turn off hard disk after to 0 minutes (will display as never after applied); Select OK; and select Save Settings.

I have a samsung 840 pro and the magician 4.4 is set to max. performance (no rapid mode). Not much required after that except to disable hibernation.

With a SSD, considering how fast it is, there is not much to extract extra out of performance anyway.

Whether you installed Windows 8.1 on an SSD or moved Windows 8.1 to an SSD, or upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 all that is required is to run wisat.
This tool discovers you have Windows 8 installed on and SSD and adjusts the appropriate system settings (see below).
Most users see the output of this via the Windows Experience Index.
You should run this tool if:
1 – You’ve just installed Windows 8.1 (and you want the system optimized immediately or just want to be sure it is run)
2 – If you’ve moved Windows 8.1 to an SSD
    3 – You upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1
4- You messed with any settings related to “SSD tweaks”
5 – You aren’t sure if your system is optimized for an SSD.
    To run WinSat:
Press the Windows + R keys > type winsat formal and click OK

Although all SSDs (at least the good ones) come with cloning software, and you can move your install from old hard disk to SSD, it seems better to refromat and reinstall clean on a SSD. I would not reinstall if moving from one mechanical HDD to another.

It always helps to update your AHCI OROM to the latest version and use the concurrent driver with it.
