Don't know why M$ did not reveal this kind of upgrade info publicly.

Thanks for all the support so far. I was checking my desktop case and found out the Windows COA sticker in one of the sides. It is a Windows 7 Starter edition. Should I install the Win7 Pro or Win7 Starter (I got the activation key, so with this one I wouldn't be needing DAZ loader) to get my genuine Win10? The ideal edition is the Pro edition, but Home will do if it will make the activation part more straightforward. Thanks beforehand.

Btw. after upgrating to Win10 can I uninstall the key (using slmgr /dlv command and slgmr /upk) and get that key for another PC? Because I've heard Win 10 activation is hardware embed.

Win 7 Starter upgrades to Home. Rather install 7 Pro for getting 10 Pro and use The Loader (as an OEM machine has SLIC and SLIC is not Edition-specific). Loader makes activation a breeze unles the system is very exotic.

After upgrading to 10, there isn't any more key to uninstall. A machine upgrading via the free offer gets a Store license, the key is a generic RETAIL one and only a placeholder. Your hardware becomes the key.

    Here's how it all works.

If your computer was from a big manufacturer and came with windows , it probably came with home premium.

If you install home premium, and then use DAZ loader, it will fetch the key and cert for you, and you will be genuinely genuine.

if you install ultimate instead, daz loader can still put in the key and cert and you will be genuine enough to pass online validation. so you will be fake genuine. MS can't detect this.

if there isn't a slic 2.1 in bios, daz loader will attempt to fake it for you, and usually succeed, and you will still be genuine enough to do the upgrade. MS usually can't catch this.

TL;DR; install the version you originally had with your computer, and then daz laoder will make you legit.

EDIT: apparently yours came with starter. you may have to actually install starter, and use the COA key. If it was a big enough manufacturer, you can use windows anytime upgrade to upgrade to ultimate by entering their ultimate SLP key. :) No, MS can't detect this either.

Oh thanks for the info! I'll give a shot on installing Win7 Pro first to update to Win10 Pro. Is there any way to check if my PC has SLIC 2.1 ? All I know is it came with Win7 Starter when I bought it.
