Well, because Telemetry system was backported from Windows 10 and the thread is in Windows 7 forum, which indicate for which OS it's intended for nonetheless, i changed the title per @oldsh_t suggestion
@oldsh_t: I totally agree with you. I have Windows 7 running and it runs fine. It doesn't seem to do anything special with my network connection.
I don't so much consider it true malicious spying as an invasion of privacy. I can stop it completely by disconnecting from the internet but that's sort of self-defeating. I've made it a habit of resetting every option I can to enhance privacy, I use Anti-Beacon and I do my dead level best to not post or transmit any personal type information. Thing is, spying and invasions of privacy predate Windows 10 by decades. People have been snooping on other people for as long as there have been people. And that was long before electronic "spying". It all comes down to your comfort level. For those computers over which I have oversight, I'm satisfied.
I know win10 crawls your network and looks for a way out. That includes win7 clients. So even if 7 isn't directly spying on you the fact that 10 can use it as a conduit is scary. The fact that people like Steve Gibson have written apps that stopped the 10 upgrade says a lot. (BTW thank you to everyone here that put time and work into the no10 and telemetry scripts/apps for 7! It's been a cat and mouse game that would be exhausting if not for your work) These days pretty much everything has some sort of telemetry. Even firefox runs all your connections and downloads through google by default. I've read the Nvidia "User Experience" that comes bundled with the newer drivers has telemetry also. They say that it helps them fix any issues. The only true reason I see to have it at all is that it allows you to record your gaming experience and upload it to some sort of fan site. At this point most companies have just turned us all into beta testers. I've seen a good number of solutions to privacy here. The problem is a lot of them are based on Tor which has already been compromised. If you wear a tin hat you might want to check out Qubes. qubes-os.org
