I think is one of the best methods for slic modding without risk. the best is bios mod, but you can get a brick. Congratulations. It works well in dual boot mode, in my case xp and 7. I propose to add to the list of forms to activate in the win7 threat.
No, i didn't try any loader. But this is safe. In worst case you can replace bootmgr by the original. And it works as well with vista (same mod bootmgr).
The links in the first post have been dead for a long time, but nononsence revived this thread with his project. So the thread starts from here
Ah, I get it now. I never even tried them, so I wouldn't know. I guess maybe nononsence should make a new dedicated WindSLIC thread, since it has nothing to do with the original project, whatever that may have been.
nononsence has like 6 WindSLIC threads and what else could have I been talking about regarding links ...lol There are always links on first pages and sometimes like my comment stated they don't work
Weird thing i noticed, playing with patched bootmgr's, and it happens with both patches - from gkend and from WindSlIC project: when patched bootmgr is started from bootable floppy, boot menu and OS are started normally, but it doesn't load SLIC in memory, like i 'm using unpatched version...*blinking eyes*... (How to make a start-up floppy for en-US locale: 1. format it in Win7 or Vista: "format a:", 2. place four files on it - with corresponding paths: bootmgr Boot\bcd Boot\fonts\wgl4_boot.ttf Boot\en-US\bootmgr.exe.mui also you can add: Boot\memtest.exe and Boot\en-US\memtest.exe.mui )
OK, solved it on my own - value of jmp at offset 48h (two bytes after E9h) should be minus 48h from what is at offset 00 (same way as it is in original bootmgr), then patch will work when starting bootmgr from floppy as well.
Hmmm... i'd say if it worked for you (and it didn't work for everyone), then it still works, and i think nononsence hasn't updated any WindSLIC projects since June of last year.
It still works, also for Windows 7 SP1 (SP1 installation replaces bootmgr so you need to patch again).
