make sure your change E: to the real drive that your bootmgr is on put a pause at the end of the script to see the error Code: takeown /A /F e:\bootmgr ICACLS e:\bootmgr /Grant Administrators:F attrib -h -s -r e:\bootmgr pause
I changed the letter but i didnt add a pause. Must have been a temporary loss of brainfunctions because i usually think of doing that... :-/ Anyhow, theres not much to report. The error message for line 2 merely says that the task hasnt been carried out, (no further explanation), and the error for line 3 is simply 'access denied'. The takeown command doesnt make any problems though... EDIT: I see it didnt work on Dazs VM either. So perhaps its a VM thing after all? EDIT2: Im sure this has something to do with the fact that the file is locked by that process...
It does nothing (bad or good) on Dell Latitude C610 Installs OK, gives the green success, reboots & no SLIC = non genuine sebus
check with this commands if your windows is activated! Code: %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\slmgr.vbs -ato %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\slmgr.vbs -dlv
Thanks a lot man, the Windows developer activation is the only method to get my windows be a guenuin. i use it with success in vista with KB708926 a.k.a Windows vista Developer Activation. Other method (slic loader...) just scramble my win installation : forced to format and reinstall every thing. If there is an error when applaying patch, just take owne the file BOOTMGR just thanks again DuD
the machine that I used for probation is also a DELL i guess the added Dell SLIC must corespond also to a DELL certificate, the key can be any ultimate key (acer, lenovo, dell) the installer is not working for me also that's why i followed the manual step by step instalation that proved to be perfectly working here (the installer is not giving any errors but when i reboot windows is NOT activated)
Hmmm, what happens if Microsoft release a patch? or embed it as part of a service pack? Great idea! but maybe fractionally more risky than the other method? I'm purely guessing lol
didn't work for me in VM, I have followed all the steps, after rebooting the machine still not activated.........
Its getting interesting. I have just reinstalled win7, but this time without the system reserved partiton. And looky here, bootmgr is no longer locked by a process! This gives reason for optimism...will check out whether it works and let you know the result... EDIT: Tested it and still no go. Tool says success but no activation after a reboot. Too bad.
I think no matter what you do this simply won't work on some systems, it fails to load the slic table even if you fully remove bootmgr and insert the modded one. There is no magic fix to it either :/ Theres too many negative results vs positive activations via bootmgr, plus it also causes Mac's to hang and fail to boot. These reasons and the Microsoft updates are why grub4dos was used over bootmgr on Vista.
The patch itself is more than 2 years old, no any improvement were made after that, like with grub loader in the past month, and the code is too small (about 1 kByte) to cover all or almost all possible situations, for example pure wow.exe is approx.7 times bigger, sure zsmin's compiled code for loading SLIC inside grldr is also significantly more. Actually i always wondered why Vista crackers are so "tied" to grub, when there're so many options where to place code for SLIC emulation, even NTFS partition bootsector is big enough and has plenty of free space (more than 4 KB) inside to hold it. Too bad MS never fought with anything other than timerstop and royal.sys driver, this kind of blocked any fresh idea's development.
